in today's episode of St painting we get to talk to KO potato who is one of the original YouTubers from New Zealand started about 11 or 12 years ago blew up made heaps of money and then it all sort of came crumbling down when she had some personal stuff that sort of got on the way and now she's on the path of rebuilding but there's that little itch at right that little insecurity piece that I know a lot of people have and how she's trying to overcome that so if you're interested in that watch along enjoy welcome to the podcast Katie hello great to have you here here why don't you quickly introduce yourself and we'll get into it hi guys it's K potato here
and basically I am on stance planing and I'm so excited thank you so much for having me no thanks for coming on and as I was saying I want to go back to where this all started and like catch me up on the last what has it been 10 11 12 15 20 years I have you got time I got time let's go s is uh so I first started off I re around about 2013 or 2014 uh basically at school love doing YouTube videos and I love yeah just being like an idiot online really and yeah and I basically I didn't even intend this is always you'll find this with so many people there's always one video that just kicks off yep and it's
like why that one and for me that was the so I was at school and I had my restricted I was driving to school I'm in my Toyota vs looking amazing in my uniform and I went obviously go home got out of school ASAP and there was a ticket on my car a $200 ticket and I was like how could I avoid this yeah I'm in school I'm not allowed to leave the grounds to go and check a$ parking ticket it wasn't just me it was all the other girls and basically I all I I was Furious so I just got my phone out and was like guys listen to this and checked it up online and I did not expect for that to go
off and then there were other small other videos that were very um so one other thing that kind of got me going was I would do sarcastic makeup looks so I'd be like if you guys guys I know that ball season's coming up so um this is what you should do this is what I'm going to do anyways and I'll just put like ridic like cake myself yeah use Vivid ASM for my eyebrows and yeah absolutely and my basic trademark is cuz I always had really thick dark eyebrows y um due to the medication that I was on and I would just overdo it as well and I love a bold eyebrow look anyway so you know was but everyone thought it was stupid and
really silly but I loved it and I still I still love it to this day really um but one thing I'd always say is like is it because of my eyebrows that my um that I've got a parking ticket today and oh like just all sorts of small little things that honestly I don't even really find funny but people really like hung on to that and loved it and I was just like oh my god really like that's so cool so yeah and sorry I just sniffed sorry and um what else so that was yeah basically 2014 and I dropped out of school in 2015 because I found out that I got into art school at White Cliff okay so I went to go and
do graphic design Y and I was like why am I at school when I'm already into uni so bye and I could do more Kat potato vids because I was on a high really um not on drugs but like on a High um with anything that I posted it it was getting so many views and I kind of knew at the back of my head like I need to ride this way for as long as I can because it will come to a time and place where I'm not getting hundreds of thousands of views and cuz that's the Internet Internet Is Always Forever changing um so I basically really got into that YouTube videos and and um at the time I was really loving makeup
so I kind of put that in and everybody loved my rants um I am not everybody's cup of tea which I like because I don't want any everyone to like me and like lick my ass and all that you know like not the world today I want I got to have haters you know it's it's totally fine with me um but I can definitely see why I'm pretty touch and go with some people and like there's other people going oh my God I love her oh my God she's a pain in the ass she's so annoying she's not funny love those people cuz it's like I've got a reaction out of you so perfect got some engagement yeah absolutely like hate all you want like
write it up but so then I was yeah at White Cliff and I was really enjoying myself and I was with my art mates and they were like saying oh my God you know I'm studying and I've got a part-time job and working at a bar and oh my God I'm tired and all that and I out of curiosity I was like how much do you make a week cuz I don't have a job I do YouTube and they were like oh I make like you know $400 a week and I was like I make 5K a month and they're like what I'm like yeah at the at the time I'm like yeah no YouTube sends me 5K USD and they're like why are you
here like why the heck are you here and I was like yeah okay well I guess if I you know keep doing videos um cuz with YouTube it was perfect there was no you could say whatever you wanted you could have music a little bit of music in yeah and now you know have to bleep every single thing you say have to be really PC yeah everything that I'm not um so yeah and then I finished that year and then I was kept doing YouTube videos and just really enjoying loving everything that I did Super passionate about it and then um unfortunately my grandmother who was like my best friend she like raised me passed away and then within the same year my dad passed
away oh wow out of nowhere really it was within like one week he's like I feel like I'm getting the flu and then next week crazy um life machine turned offit crazy so that really rocked me and that really did not make me make me want to do work because I was just so like devastated and but I mean it's kind of unfair though because in a normal world I don't live a very normal life in a normal world I should have just gone straight back to work but I was so lucky to live off of savings yeah from what I used to make and just really um I've spent probably so that was all in 2018 and then you know we go through heartbreak
have a boyfriend you think you're going to be with forever that doesn't happen yeah all that kind of stuff and that all just made me so depressed that honestly since 2021 I've just well 2018 I've just been working on Mental Health yeah and just getting better and um nowadays I'm feeling like I've got more motivation to do stuff but in saying that I'm also quite lost because so much has changed within six years yeah I'm so used to doing longterm I mean longterm long format videos because at 10 minute mark on YouTube that's when you get yeah um mon monetization yeah and um this is crazy but my whole entire YouTube got demonetized because I'm pretty sure allegedly I don't want them to sue me
I'm pretty sure with a uh makeup person that I very heavily Endor and if people know me they know who I'm talking about I'm pretty sure he doed me in and managed to get me copies I got copies stried oh my God how do you say it copyright stried um at the end of all my videos it was like a remix of the Jackson 5 ABC coolest song ever absolutely love that song um but I think I said some one bad thing about one of his products and I'm pretty very high-powered man pretty sure he had a lot to do with that so wow I make nothing from YouTube now and it's you can't ever again well I so I went through all my videos
and edited out at the end my um end song it be the end that would be like watch this video next follow me on here um so I got rid of all of those but once you're copyright strike YouTube kind of just knocks you back a bit it's pretty they there's so much power that YouTube holds and nowadays if I put like a video up I'm lucky to get like less than 10K to view it it's crazy whereas back in the day say 2017 2018 if I put a video up by lunchtime like within 3 hours I'd be up to like 80k yeah viewers and now it's and that's another thing where I feel so unmotivated cuz I'm like how am I doing this for
no one's watching me anymore but I get so many beautiful lovely people that reach out to me going I watch you still I yeah you know like don't stop like you you get me you've got me through all these you've got me through so much stuff and all that and the thing is like this is hard to explain when I put a video out all I ever think about is that oh it's just my mom and my granddad that's watching this I don't think of anyone else yeah um so it's always a shock to me when people come up and go oh my God it's so I love you I watch you because I really dissociated myself I cuz I'm just like I'm nothing special
so whatever but so many people see the special in me and it's a really nice lovely reminder that I I do help people and but it really does feel like you know like right now sitting with you feel like I'm a flop like I'm not good enough yeah um I'm a [ __ ] that's so normal though right like I took obviously I talk to so many creators and have creators who work for us and it's probably the most common thing they say really yeah like Janie who works for us she's always going through these periods with us [ __ ] EP care what she does the rest leaves the rest of us in our dust yeah constantly every week's like I'm so [ __ ] at what I do yeah
and it's just it's like an artist thing artists do it like you're an artist right like that's I also paint and do art and I hate everything that I do I it's classic people always go oh my God whole team make on it like it's all the creatives see yeah I the thing is like I've met some creators I was likey enough to go to to a couple of um bigger things with American creators oh my God I'm not saying all of them are but they honestly think that this [ __ ] don't stink like they think they're incredible that they're amazing um it also a cultural thing love everything that they do everything they do is absolutely amazing and I remember I was in a elevator
um going so I was in Melbourne it was like a YouTube oh my God what was it YouTube ah what is it called when um like a VidCon or something VidCon that's it it it was like a mini VidCon and lots of American people came and I was in the elevator with um a creator that I didn't know no idea who they were and someone else that was with them a using the absolute [ __ ] out of their um their what would they be like their um manager um and you doing a terrible [ __ ] job how could you do this to me and I've come all this way to Australia you haven't got I'm only doing five interviews how dare you I'm going to se you
like absolutely going off at this dude and it's like oh my God I could never talk to anyone like that that's so crazy it's but they really truly think um yeah it's staying home B is really I feel like lots of kiwi there's so many kiwi people that are bit like how I feel like you you kind whatever it's definitely a cultural thing like kiwis and um British people are very much like um we're we're far more conservative and reserved with our abilities like it's quite normal for us to self-deprecating humor or toell ourselves and whereas from an American's perspective it's the opposite like they're optimistic and look I don't I think it's neither here or there which is right or wrong like I think
that there's some elements of kiwi culture and and British culture like the whole that that culture breeds tul poppy like it's the whole reason right AB yeah absolutely so that's bad too cuz then you know we have people who do crazy [ __ ] because people abusing them it's like you yeah American people really do not resonate um with our humor like some I know so many American followers that are like oh my God I don't understand T and you know saying his name wrong I don't understand his humor his movies are strange and yeah there's some people that just do not get yeah the it's usually also like quite dry and dark humor and Americans like some Americans not saying every sing I love you guys
not saying every single one but there's um a very big chunk that are very um career oriented like it's the career or nothing yeah I when I went to USA um not for um YouTube or anything every time I my parents or I met someone like if we were in the line somewhere eating going out to eat that everyone has a business card oh yeah everyone call me on my call me on my card if you want like oh my God what that's all they all they're always doing is networking and getting better and better and it's so interesting yeah that my cousin um went to go and study law and she was shocked with how many are like you know what's your inspiration what
do you want to be when you're after this blah blah blah and she was like real chilled back and relaxed about and they were like why are you thinking like that like oh my God you should be doing this that and the other yeah yeah yeah yeah it's I think um you you'll notice that if when you start to meet them you dig in a little bit further or you watch like they still have the same insecurities they just are much more positive about it like we as kiwi and Aussies or British people we're far more like play it down like AB you know and I'm not going to try much hard and I'm not very good whereas they will overcompensate and be like no
I'm really really good but deep down they still don't think they are it's the same security plays out they just think of it differently absolutely I so that so makes sense the artists are still like I'm no good in their head but externally they're like I'm the [ __ ] man I'm so good at what I do right it happens all the time you see it all the time with heaps of people it's like it's across the board but they have the same insecurity lots of people struggle with worrying about what people think of them just AAL thing so yeah I think that like hearing you say that is just so normal it's so normal like I it's not just me iess the majority like and I
think the people like me who don't give a [ __ ] what anyone says which is not normal we don't have the same spark for creativity that people who do care we're not like I'm not an artist by any stretch imagination I can make content but I make my I get like my expertise through like Brute Force right and just like putting [ __ ] out like you know where it's like these guys like they actually know how to make content oh absolutely they good at oh my God I I I took a tour around um and I annoyed everyone in the office they are so onto it oh my person I was sitting with Shay love you girl um telling me you know just all sorts of little
mini things and she's like talk Stan he knows all the the ins and out so you're on the right Tik Tok and the right Spotify you're on everything right um but yeah I definitely it's so nice and refreshing to hear something from someone like you that gets it yeah cuz CU lots of people don't no no they don't and lots of people like with me like who are like me the often and I was like this I still am it to a certain extent but I understand it now because I have so many team members is that my my initial response is always just like just do it like what the [ __ ] you worried about like get it out there but obviously it doesn't work
and I've tried it so much with my team over time and then I realized like it's not what they need to hear like you really got to Baby them along for it because actually it's nothing to do with their abilities it's all internal insecurities y and what you've what I tend to do with them is like find out I I always try to find out what's the worst that can happen like if you do this what's the worst that can happen will your House burn down yeah no how is that going to happen okay so what's the worst that's going to happen yeah like 100% so like once you actually start to think about it logically then people like oh well I suppose okay let's
give it a crack you exactly and then another thing is like to look back like they're very we our team in the Trap of looking back uh without actually looking at data they just look back and go Oh My Views are dropped and it's like okay well let's actually dissect this and have a proper look and when you look into it the data doesn't show that it's just like one video didn't go yes so then my whole mind SED like everything sucks yeah you know absolutely so you put these blanket things out but actually is it right or are you just now letting that one mistake affect everything in the future and you become the self-fulfilling prophecy so Mar issue is not coming up with
enough ideas to create short content your team's amazing at doing that I all the stuff that they were pulling out is like things I do want to know like cool things like hey have you got enough money um to the how much money do you have left um to the end of the month to the end of your week I love hearing all that but yeah I I see so many ticktockers that have have an idea every single day and I look at it and I'm like I could do that but you got to do it it's a lot of the it for us to watch a 10c video and you're just like oh day in the life you don't take it on how much
effort people are yeah putting behind it and I yeah I'm really running out of ideas and thinking God what what could I put out that people will love and again the same weird things happen I put something up and it's a video that I don't even think is going to get any views on and it's always that one that's like um but no yeah I'm definitely trying to find a bit more motivation to but and but then another um I've said this just before I'm like no one's going to watch this so who's why am I doing this why am I putting so much effort into something no one's going to watch that's my mindset every every day and I it's a really bad it's
a real bad mindset really bad mindset to be in and it's like why are you doing it right like exactly if you're doing it just for people to watch it as well there's no more purpose behind it you're never going to be a to like we I don't like whenever we're working as a team around purpose even for us or clients if it's just for viewership if my purpose is to get people to watch it's never going to work it's always going to fail there's got to be something more to it to have you motivated to do the thing ab and so once you can get out of that and like you've got some other bigger purpose to do it then cool but then the
second bit like the ideation thing it's momentum builds momentum so like just doing it more gives you more ideas if I had like an idea every day and went and filmed it I honestly think I would be off on a rocket for sure but it's the I think I look back and I go I wouldn't watch this but it's not about me it's so many other people want to see something one thing that I've noticed um a lot the ones that I like watching are the people who have got an un undis what is it indisposable amount of money like undis yeah I left school in the last year I left school okay guys um having so much money like inome you look at the
cardans and then you look at like others who have all this money and you want to see it cuz oh I'm never going to be like that but watching them have all that money it's like and then that's when people like chase that bad is this still your full-time gig yes yeah so you know how many people have this as their full-time gig no one like literally zero people when you in the relativity of the world like hardly anyone does this for a full-time gig so you're already someone that people like oh my God like what a [ __ ] life you know it's like the most desirable job in the world right now for kids as YouTuber or content creator right like everyone wants to be
one and you because you Want To Be Your Own Boss I hate if someone tells me to do something I I go out of my way to make sure I don't like you can't tell me like one thing um with my videos I never say to people like And subscribe never said it once cuz I'm like if I watch that and I go like And subscribe I'm not you caught me I'm not going to do that now yeah no I it's but it's important to do that for sure of course absolutely you're not you're not demographic right like the people watching that you get to like And subscribe they need to be reminded to do it because they get too caught up in the story
and they forget why they need to absolutely it is very important and yeah I guess that's another like tool puy like oh for sure it's for sure a to puy thing it's for sure a kiwi humbleness thing yeah which is just like shut up I hate looking desperate you know what I mean but everyone who says like And subscribe you I don't see you as being desperate but for me I'm like I sound desperate when say that but how much are you putting out now like what how much content are you putting out not a not as much as I want to give me some numbers how often you posting weekly and we probably once a week and it would always be at home on
Tik Tok YouTube are you still doing YouTube Lots I CU I so often with YouTube it's not as often because I'm trying to focus on Tik Tok because that's where everyone is but I have so many other people going I miss your half an hour you chatting away putting makeup on but I yeah I just see that more people are on Tik Tok I need to come up with fast stuff you know like Fast short bits of everyone's cha chasing their dopamine and levels and all that and you know like like that I but yeah I'm definitely not posting as much as I wish but I have a list in my phone that I work through and I'm like I want to do this I
want to do this how do I what stops you from doing more at the moment is it insecurity yeah definitely definitely what is the process for you to make a video like how do you work through that as a process like do you just go inspiration strikes I'm going to make it or do you have like a list of ideas yeah okay I have to be in the mood to do it yeah back in 2014 2015 all I thought about was having fun and making videos and having a laugh with everyone now it's like I see myself as nothings and it's um I guess you know it's a lot to do with my mental health as well but you know that's being worked on that's
yeah yeah that's do I'm always going to be but it's it's definitely a massive insecurity of like man no one likes me like it was 10 years ago but you know it was 10 years ago but that's crazy yeah it's it's definitely the it's crazy to think how many millions of people have watched you and you still think that yeah no I don't at all my partner who honestly this is so funny um when I met him he didn't even have a mobile number he made a Facebook so he could keep in touch with his mom um he's a fisherman and uh when Mom told him who I was um it's funny I met him in hospital when mom um met when mom um said
to him hey she's have you heard of this and he's like no he's like I don't even know what Spotify is you know like he was I I love him so much so refreshing he knows nothing about technology and when he was watching me like he's got no social media um mindset but he always reminds me like babe everybody that so many people come up to you and I'm like no they don't because every day we go out someone comes up and I'm like yeah but they're dress being nice and he's like he really is so supportive of that but he's definitely the I cannot believe how many people know you and whereas I don't think about that at all I I've always said to
my close friends if I ever ever ever become egotistical you need to tell me because I'm doing something but there's a difference between being egotistical and being proud of yourself yes F of two different things like that's thing I often talk to Janie about cuz she goes through the same stuff in our team like um I don't know if there's really many other people you're not quite the same you're more like compete with others more than Jan's more of like a she gets in her head and she can't do stuff it's good to be competitive yeah it's a lot harder of your own content that's one thing that I always notice when it comes to like video ideas cuz I struggle thinking of ideas for
my stuff but if it's a client like I can come with them real it's not mine cuz then there's no barrier I don't know about that oh I don't know what will think cuz it Doesn't it's client right it's not 100% which is why your day series have been good for you cuz you have don't have to think yeah you can just go it's just day five I've kind of stopped caring though after just like I've hit so many roadblocks and J's like just [ __ ] stop being a [ __ ] that's rich coming from Janie and then but like it is just but it is true yeah you got to you got to start to be like there is a difference with being egotistical and proud you
know and like you've got to get to a point of where you can be proud of what what you do going oh [ __ ] I actually can do stuff and because I've watched other people try and they can't and there is something I'm doing and like a lot of people think they''re being lucky yes and but Lucky's not you can't do Lucky forever no that's yeah lucky is not consist one video and that yeah one Banger and then you not five grand us a month yeah yeah exactly it's not that level so it's definitely not luck it's obviously some skill there yeah or even if it sometimes it's not even skills sometimes it's just Charisma like you just have this Charisma about you like we've had
clients who have gone off on Tik Tok purely from Charisma the videos are terrible like like we've got like the um what's his name old F K uh Steve no no no um oh um yeah the financial guy yeah yeah Kei Keith Keith's videos aren't great no but they've had like half a million views 1 million views talking about Finance oh yeah but he's got this Charisma about him that it's like I'm going to listen to him I'm going to listen to thisy I've seen other people the same [ __ ] exactly the same way maybe even better better videos but I don't listen to them but he's got the christma so there's always something that you're got and so be proud of that like just be
like look it's something I'm good at everyone's good at their own thing everyone's good at something I wish everyone who watches me could do a vote and go can you tell me what you like about me so I can hone in on that cuz I but why though because I mean like I want to keep everyone satisfied and so then ask what they want rather than what they think about you yeah because you're just doing that to make yourself feel good actually well no well well yeah sort of but then it's also data cuz it's like okay so they love it when I'm going off my head having a rant or oh um I love that she does makeup it's like you can you can
also just see what they love anyway cuz you've made all these videos and the ones that OB get the most engagement and Views is what your audience likes the most yeah but you were 100% right on that but then lots of the stuff I look back and refer to is like five four years ago yeah that's fair so it's like four years ago just make a video when's the last YouTube clip you put up oh God it would have probably been I'm going to V you I think maybe oh I think maybe cuz when I do T I do check up um something it might be something to do with my I made like my dad's meatballs or something lots of oh my god oh
yeah yeah two months ago oh no you did three weeks ago you did unsponsored here and SK care vid but those are all your short ones so your last long form was four months ago 5 months ago seven 11 yeah one a month yeah so why don't you just go yeah they get they've they've dropped a lot of in viewership yeah 100% And and I look at that and I go I'm useless no one likes me why am I doing this you know like I that's it gets me down why don't you just put up a video that is just straight up asking them yeah I'm you can um check me on that guys just be like guys like what do you want from me
yeah what is this what do you want put in the like what do you want from me what do you want to know like life update tell me like I'll do it all but then also like your newest videos when you think about them I mean you did do your last one was a where have I been one I suppose um they're very different to why they look different to why what your first ones were yes they look different they look different so I think that is a thing with YouTube one of the things I find of YouTube's algorithm is that it's so dependent on past whereas the Tik Tok Al is so dependent on now yes it doesn't matter what the pass is it
doesn't give a [ __ ] I can't keep up with trends like the now but I'm trying to but you know I don't even know no matter I don't even think it matters on Tik Tok What the trends are I think it it plays into it if you're going to play in Trends I get it but all it really cares about is like do people want to watch this today whereas on YouTube like you get a lot of YouTubers still making the same content they've always made but it still works because the algorithm still pushing it to people yeah cuz if you're in that algorithm and you're on that wave keep going absolutely do not stop my biggest flaw that I did was um being was grieving
I should have kept going but like honestly you couldn't I couldn't get out of bed most days like I my I just had zero motivation to get up and do work and I it makes me sound so spoiled because in the real world if I had like an actual proper job I would have needed be in the office no I I won't be able to moving straight back to work the next week exactly yeah so what does your day look like what what does your week look like how do you structure it so I get up and trying to lose weight at the moment not working um my life that's story of my life I feel you and yeah no I definitely spend a lot
of time seeing what is up like what what Tik tok's doing and what Facebook is doing and honestly I spend a lot of time on Instagram that's a that's a app that I use literally every single day um I go on Instagram and I'm very um I talk to I honestly my favorite thing that I do every day is um write back to people and talk to people I've got so many people that open their heart up and you know I've lost my dad and what did you do and um I really have a really intimate um way of talking to my followers and I I kind of want to be like that best mate that I'm always there for you type of deal but
um always I'm always looking at like makeup that I want to do I'm always looking at products that I big at the time for me to talk about and so so most of it is about like prepping and planning for next videos yes do you what else do you do outside of content creation like does there any other Ventures any other work not no not at the moment it's pretty cut and dry at the moment you know I've had other people on this podcast actually recently and one of the pieces of advice I gave them was um like you need to like as creatives and artists we often think we shouldn't be working like normal workers we think oh when the inspiration hits we go
and do stuff and that's fine I get it but like I always use Stephen King as an example oh yeah so Stephen King is like one of the most prolific authors of all time one of the most successful authors of all time um so successful that a lot of his movies he gave the rights away for a dollar because he's like I just want the movie made right right like and he's so prolific he gets up every day goes to work at 8:30 in the morning finishes at 5:00 p.m. and has a word count he writes to every day he doesn't need to he's like in his 60s maybe 70s now yeah and he's he's been doing that for 50 years that's amazing and he's
like he's like most of the time like people think like when you're creative you just like come off creative stuff like no it's not it's grinding like you got grind away at it and just like work every day absolutely and I talk about these guys who are creative like you will be better if you just do more exactly you just have to do it they're way better content creators than when they walked in and I could teach them content creation cuz that better content creators me but I could teach them work ethic MH and like even to like much of their dismay like a lot of them are like I want to make good quality [ __ ] make cool stuff and it's like fine yeah but
you got to grind to get the work e of just like knowing how to put it out and they're better for it cuz now when they like they can make so much better content when when they started so some of the advice I'd say is to you is like there's there's of course like going to work as hard I also sorry I forgot to I was just thinking um I draw all day I do um okay I do um art commissions I've been doing art commissions for the past 3 to four months I really love doing that um yeah no by everything you're saying I'm taking in but but I honestly like I don't even think about that I I'm on my iPad nearly all
day are you at home doing it yes I'm at home your yeah cuz I've got um I've got so much health [ __ ] I've got bad kidneys bad back um honestly the perfect the sounds like luxury life perfect thing for me is drawing on my iPad in bed yeah watching all the latest thing that's going on on YouTube and um being there for my grandfather I'm a I'm a really big family girl like I'm I like I find it I find it so strange when people I think it's just me though um when like I would never think oh I'm going to go move to Melbourne I'm going to in New Zealand till my granddad passes like he's the he he is my number one best
friend but I try to do as much as I can and help him so I love being helpful to him as well um but yeah no my best that I love doing is drawing um I've been drawing since I was three and oh yeah I I love doing that and I've been able to do some drawings for people who have passed away I've got a friend you need to I don't know what you need to do you need to call him cuz he is the most interesting person his name is um Caleb um lidgard and he does absolutely insane hyper um hyper realistic portraits yeah of people if you look on your Instagram right now has it's called Arts of Edward Arts of Edward Arts
of Edward because that's I think that's his middle name um he is yeah he is 18 He he's 18 and that's a picture that's crazy no look at his other ones holy [ __ ] he's so it's those people those people are crazy who can draw like that a hey and do you know wait till you hear this this is like a gut kick he's only been drawing for like 5 years no way like how do you even he drew me a picture of my dad wow that's so cool and I I opened it on camera I was you you can find the video I was beside myself so like I really that feeling that he did for me me doing that for others I feel that's
just so um a it's just so rewarding yeah if I it's um if I wasn't if I didn't do YouTube If I didn't do any content creation I would love to be um a um working at the morg oh really yep doing like makeup on dead people yeah and um that I like honestly have all the things random [ __ ] people tell me on these podcasts that has got to be up there yeah I I yeah that's it yeah I'd love to I honestly I when I lived I lived out of Oakland for like a couple of months I was going to funeral parlors being like like yo you need someone cuz I yeah like I could I told me to drain them what do you
want to do the Vivid for the eyebrows oh I haven't been I I wasn't able to do that when I saw my dad um because I was the first to see him if I did that Mom would be like get out of here but um you know it's needed right it's a needed service like they do just they dress them up absolutely it's cuz um God you can tell I've been like thinking about grief for I've been working through it it's the it's the do you know the casketeers the beautiful morti um family that do I look at that and I'm like that is so rewarding um cuz I mean when you're saying goodbye to someone you love that's your last image you have of
them Y and I would love for um I decorated my nana and my Grandad came and he was just that's his last yeah things of N and you know I find that really rewarding and I'd also love to do um like um something to do with babies like planket I am nowhere near ever qualified to be a a nurse but I love babies um yeah I've got all sorts of weird little um Niche I'd love to do that um but yeah there is a funeral thing yeah that was crazy I could be a funeral director I'm cuz I'm so I'm so scared of McKing up things yeah that um but you know do a bit of makeup do you ever make any content about that
stuff nah I don't because it's very morbid very morbid and the thing and I do awful I've got such a dark sense of humor um there's so many videos where I'm really like condescending to my dad like making fun that he loves upstairs in a shoe box and um some people are like that's disgusting how could you do that and it's just like my dad was alive he would love that I'm yeah being upbeat about it yeah cuz he would rather me be upbeat and be silly than cry about it which that's how people deal with creef 100% everyone everyone deals with grief their own way so differently 100% yeah I got nothing wrong with it like it's but yeah I can see why people
don't like it though but yeah it's um yeah no I'd love to I but then everyone's like you should be a makeup artist and I'm like I would be scared shitless to go to a wedding and you're you like your job is on the line to make this bride look amazing you know what I mean too scared I'm so scared of stuffing up so it's best that I I say this random thought this might be like way too off but in terms of like content what if you um like when like famous people pass away whatever you said like oh this is how I would do their makeup on but then cuz you sit in bed and you do the drawing you so you can
like draw the makeup on them I don't know if there's a digital way to do it then you can have like before and after because I don't know that just seems like kind of funny but yeah that is a great idea cuz the thing with Funeral Directors they're not they're not makeup artists they don't know how to match skin so like when you go and you say I I know so many people that gone to see their loved one and they look orange and there's lipstick all over their teeth and it's so just B they die people's here and it's really wrong you can even yeah you can even do it like how you did the ball stuff just go the complete opposite direction as
well oh my God I'm just going to help out this person like only the thing blah blah I when you make you get caner it's a joke when you when it's like deliberately a joke and people get it and you're not actually like like going to dead people and doing it on De people you're doing it on a picture especially because you have the backup case of something in your own life you done it the proper and it's been such a big thing like you can't get canell for that yeah it's funny it's like I can joke about my dad being dead but you don't you dare yeah absolutely but yeah no um when I first saw my dad um they completely stuffed his facial
hair up and I was like my mom's going to have a mental breakdown when she sees this so you need to fix this right now and they oh so yeah I was so shocked when that happened I was just like oh my God if it was me yeah and then yeah and I just watch the Cs and I'm like that is so rewarding and beautiful and that's i' love to do rewarding I love rewarding thing like rewarding job aspect things yeah if um what stops you what stops me yeah uh cuz I'm scared I'm going to stuff up like I I I'm security thing very um perfectionist and then it could be perfect and still go I could do better you know I it hasn't
been like that for the past couple years it's been like that my whole life yeah I would I would get I'd show pictures to let my mom when I was four and I'd show her and it was always but I can do better yeah I've done this but I can do it better it's always I can do better and it's it's it's it's a really um yeah it's a real why do you want to do why do you want to do it better because I want I want to like w people you know like do you think it's possible to do it the best probably someone I always think someone else can do it better but is that the best well there you go you
just said it what you just said that someone else can always do it better yeah so not me no but but even them so but that's in all cases right like there's always a possibility of doing something better yeah and it might not be better as a holistic look it might be better in one aspect of it and so therefore then there is no way doing it best and we talk about that in our team about like there's no way for us to be the best content creators in the world there's just no way exactly I do yeah see I do have that on board of not everyone else a cup of tea yeah for sure but um it's just I guess it's always it's
almost like a toxic um my parents always strive to do their absolute best and I always think this isn't good enough yeah and so but i' I've been told that my whole life I'm not [ __ ] on you hi mom um but it's yeah it's just an insecurity yeah both of my parents super duper humble any success that they have they never they always downplay it and I've just been bought up that way yeah yeah yeah I don't think it's anything wrong with being humble I think though that people use it as an excuse for inaction right you know I think it's fine being humble like I don't think there's anything wrong with like not like being somebody who doesn't have to go out to the
world and say look how [ __ ] cool I am like we don't often do that as a business either we we're very rarely out there telling the world where [ __ ] the best in fact like we make jokes about how we go to the rest of the world telling where [ __ ] like there's a big conference here in New Zealand called digital day out um and it's in July and last year in July I was on stage and like all these big fancy people on before me and they're all talking themselves up how good they were and these are the people who like hate being out there yeah right so they finally got this one time on stage in front of all these people and like telling everyone
how good they are I get up on stage and people like how are you guys so good at what you do and I like literally my response back was we're not we're just as [ __ ] as the wrist of you but that's how we truly feel cuz we are like that's perfect it's you're full of being authentic yeah 100% Lots yeah lots of people love me for being me and yeah all thing to city is 100% up there cuz I know so many girls um and boys is that um are trying to sell makeup and they're all the exact same or they're sponsored one thing that everyone's doing and you guys will know this um you know how you have to put hash ad so many
people are not doing that now because um you want to hear it from someone going I went to the store and bought this myself with my own money and I love it then more people are like oh trust you but it's all it's still being um under the you know I've got like a few thoughts on this actually this is a real good topic so I personally think that the hashad think's full of [ __ ] and no one should do it and because no one does It On movies no no one on a product placement on movies no one on TV3 is going oh by the way this was an ad no one's in the woman's day going oh by the way they paid for this
article to be in here yeah you just got to deal with it but content creators all of a sudden people like these guys are making too much money we need to stop them you need to put ad in here every time yeah you have to yeah it's like it's a legal thing you have to do yeah you have to it's real dumb get paid if you're getting paid for it now even if it's gifted but the thing is that yeah you have to Hash gifted the thing the the thing is is that like they had a big Spotlight on it at one stage because the reason why it became a thing is cuz the IID needed a way of tracking how much text detects you
right and that was the thing is that you weren't getting tax properly but now they found ways of getting tax properly because a lot of these influencer things are done properly and legitimate and above board so they can track it a lot easier right so they're not as worried anymore the Tex guys don't really care cuz they they know how much you got yeah like they know cuz you've invoiced for it or or whatever it might be or like Henry in New Zealand has been a good thing because Henry all the influences jumped on Henry yeah cuz it made was a really good that's great yeah for like soul solopreneurs and stuff perfect for right for sure so actually I think it's full of [ __ ]
that the government made people do # ad I think it's full of [ __ ] as soon and another thing is as soon as you put hash ad your video is not no um bouncing out cuz it the algorithm the big um whoever's in charge of the internet they see that and they're like n let's push that down even even if it wasn't some big Overlord doing it as an audience member and I see it I'm like this is [ __ ] like I'm not watching yeah you know f it feels F feels like a typical commercial that you'd see on T yeah and it feels like an ad but when we watch movies that have product placement in it yeah we don't oh I'm going to skip this
movie no I love the um lately there's one um there's so many music videos now that have the um that monkey uh what are they called um you buy them oh not gifs um say that again nfts yeah those AP like they're on in their video and they're like they're holding up like this monkey looking thing so many people are doing that and the same with um yeah there's so many music videos there's no hashtag add of music videos no absolutely not every time you see any brand and any of those things are getting paid to be there nothing 100% you don't watch the NBA and be like oh # ad for Nikes no you're not going to watch the Olympics in July and have
# ad everywhere it's not going to be they're going to put Tik toks out of some dude winning the 100 meter do you think there's going to be a # ad Nike no there's not but you go and do the same thing and run into the Nikes and you'll do it and if you're not you get in trouble so you know what get [ __ ] like the government's full of [ __ ] [ __ ] y don't clip this put it out [ __ ] you I'm so angry about it it's such a [ __ ] [ __ ] piece of [ __ ] I hate it and why should why should content creators have to do it you're set for you're honestly setting setting yourself up for failure failure straight away because um like me if I
see someone going oh my God love this lipstick um # gifted I'm just like you have only and the ones that drive me nuts you probably don't I don't see you probably watching makeup a lot lots of them have like I don't know say Foundation or setting spray and it's all filled right up to the top I been using this for 6 weeks and oh my God this is the best thing I've ever used and it's full like right to the bro it's like you're going to fake it put it like halfway right down to the bottom yeah um do you know about this girl you probably don't cuz it's a makeup thing she did the best worst thing oh yeah I think that she's
really clever and I think she did it on purpose there was this thing uh last year called like lash gate so this girl this American girl who puts on a really heavy New York accent um she actually talks like a American that you can understand but she's like a Boston accent sorry like a really heavy Boston accent she got this mascara and she's got millions I think she's got 12 million followers on Tik Tok she had this mascara and it goes she go she puts it on she goes oh my god um this was mascara is amazing look at my eyelashes and she does another video and she's put a fake eyelash on and she's being legit and everyone's going that's a w some so
everyone went mental going you're a liar that you're wearing a false eyelash that video for that L'Oreal product got like 80 million views and everyone bought that to see and go see I told you that's so smart I think she's I and she never apologized for it I honestly like she's like she put her thing on the line but honestly if you just here and this is another thing if you get cancelled for something and you want it to go away just say nothing and that's what exactly she's done and for her wedding she had a lipstick company yeah do her wedding um she made her perfect wedding lipstick she very very clever and it's not something um you look like that you know she's
you know talking [ __ ] and that it's 100% um not authentic but she that they would have paid some sort of small fee to her when really with all those views that she got oh it's massive oh I I don't think you can get canceled for lineing unless you're lying about something like cancer or death or yes oh my God outside of that if you lie about a product or whatever no one gives a [ __ ] everyone knows everyone's lying I think like these days like canceling getting canell can so easy for get canceled for anything and everything seriously I think there's two types of canceled there's proper canceled or you get canceled because actually you say some [ __ ] that's hateful yeah fine cancel that person yeah
um but getting canceled for something like that that's not real canceled no just move on like no one gives a [ __ ] everyone's going to forget the next day everyone's like oh my God oh my God that's crazy and then month later not even a month two weeks later she's up to her 30th video showing off um another U makeup thing her name is Michaela Nira I'll write down and you can have a look honestly if you type in it on YouTube you'll see it and it's so funny even people I showed it to my partner and he would for him who only knows what fish looks like yeah hav seeing the eyelash thing he was like yeah know that's a fake eyelash that's so funny
I should make a Tik Tok video put on eyelashes mascara that was just such a great yeah for something oh she got so many views when I saw that everyone hating on her I was like good on you honestly like that's funny is that where most of your like Revenue comes now is brand deals like makeup brand deals um no I haven't I haven't had many brand deals fores cuz I'm very I'm actually very picky yeah I say not a lot of things so where do you generate it now where do I generate your Revenue I generate it from YouTube still okay yeah and how much is that at now now that you've like your viewership dropped and stuff is that still going all right
so listen to us this is so unfair so I used to make maybe about 18K a month yeah and now I'm lucky to get like two to 3K us us yeah yeah yeah so still enough that you can survive on but not yeah but I it's that awful I could have bought whatever the hell I I'm living off savings really yeah I'm I I I put it away but then also um was silly with it with um buying yeah me you know just young lots of money yes I I was I was 2019 I didn't know what to do with money um but I have kept a lot of it and I do live comfortably off of that and um now with the art commissions
that's really cool but I miss the um just not having to worry about anything when my Nana was dying I spent um a lot of money on her Wheelchairs and dishwashers and she would always never know cuz if she knew I did that yeah and I was also um I've got it's funny I was put I was making so much money I was putting money in my n and granddad's account um every week and you know it's online they don't they don't know how to look at it online and a bloody letter came through in the mail and Nana saw you know all her expenses and she could see that money was being put in her account and she messaged mom going I've got a
bone to pick with K Caitlyn KO I've got a um I've got a bone to pick with her and she shouldn't be doing that oh my God like she needs to keep her money but it was I loved putting my money away to someone who really needed it and you know my Nano and Granddad they were the type of people that would go to pack and save and we got LMP because for a bottle it's $2 instead of you when saving like $35 or I love that mindset I love that mindset that they used to have you know four instead of one for 250 yeah like legit I I was behind them in the a legit they they like Penny pinched everything like oh I
got this and oh my God what a my granddad still does it he goes love I bought your a four litter bottle of Coke it was $3 it's usually 750 at w and I'm just like oh thank you so much Grand that's so cool so sweet but um yeah I love just paying people's debt off and I was very um generous I guess yeah I and but yeah I do have a little bit that I still sit on which is cool but yeah I just feel like so why didn't you I feel like if I've if I can make that much money in the past I can do it again absolutely money money comes but you're only just like coming to that point now right
that's what you said when we first met that you're like getting back on the hor essentially yeah I'm really wanting to grind my perfect life would be and I've told my partner this and he's all for it I just want to be be a housewife I just want to make like dinners in the crockpot I want to do was washing I want to clean the whole house evolve it that's good content that's great content evolve it people watch that [ __ ] [ __ ] kidding me everyone can relate to it cuz everyone know every one knows about it or wants it yeah I'm trying to get my wife to do a similar like the entrepreneurs wife content because like it's a real normal thing for white Partners or
entrepreneurs who have these crazy life cuz like my life's not normal because of this business right right right that we're always like working lots and doing all the [ __ ] and then so my wife like doesn't work well she works in the business but not really day-to-day she picks and chooses when she wants to but she takes care of the home so that I can grind and it's a real normal thing and I was like you should start to document like it will go off she's done one video on Tik Tok and I got like 45,000 views or something I'm like keep going girl let's awesome but yeah he's he she struggles with the same thing though yeah I know just [ __ ] he's like he's like
um you know if that's what you want I'm going to make sure that happens you know I don't want you to work on I probably I'm not going to say his name but Ko's partner watch this Terry Terry TI your job is to get KO to put out a video on YouTube Every 3 Days Every 3 days about her new life looking after a man making crockpot dinners and [ __ ] being the housewife and you guys will have come to me ever after and all you can do is fish bro yes you just fish anytime you want yes and build and build and every time you bring some fish home she'll cook that fish and the new thing that you built yep uh there you go
that's your job bro and CR don't let her don't let her off don't let her come off some [ __ ] excuse just make her grind away putting out videos get back on the horse I love how much Faith he has in me cuz it's like I don't see it I do we the world loves Terry I love Terry Terry I love you Terry best guy ever he's like a old school Country Boy honestly if you meet him you'd love him put in your content people so people love like an honest bloke who's just like un Disturbed from content in the reality every loves people that are still back in yeah innocence the Innocence that they have I'm not even kidding not I did I mention at
the start that he didn't even have a mobile number yeah didn't have a mobile number he made a Facebook page cuz he forgot his password he had 10 friends on there he goes I go oh who do you watch on YouTube he goes I watch YouTube and didn't know what Spotify was he has how old is he he's 30 next year God that is the best isn't that I I adore him I love him already oh he is honestly content and get it out but he's the most blest guy you've ever met like great he's absolutely fantastic amazing I I said to him hey babe this thing called Tik Tok and do you know if you type in like boats and fishing that content will
