show notes.
Ryan's goal is simple: He wants to help people live fulfilling lives.
Despite the fact he doesn't like making videos or have any desire to be famous... He knows it's the place to be to reach a lot of people and invoke action.
The irony of the situation is evident. Ryan is a Financial Advisor with a 20k debt and struggling to figure out how to monetise his audience.
That's where Stan comes in.
Through the banter and the mild roasting of our lovely guest, Stan cuts through the bullsh*t and does his best to give Ryan advice on how to get on his feet.

no we don't do any of the intro [ __ ] but what I do want to do is I want you to introduce yourself so anyone who is watching knows who the [ __ ] you are and why are you here why I'm here I'm not sure Ryan Melton is who I am yeah started a finance brand realized Finance is boring as [ __ ] and now pivoted marketing let's start on that because that's what I actually wanted to start on is why after how many years has it been in finance for like one why it is financing two white it takes so long for you to figure that out why it sucks is I think the the Hue the the populace will just instinctively understand but the the thing about
it is easy yeah like everyone can understand the fundamentals of finance and then live a fulfilling life financially you know put it in an index fund manage fund or a property that you actually manage well leave the [ __ ] alone and then you're good and then there's certain structures but why it was boring I knew it was boring initially yeah but I asked a whole lot of old people what was important about life and why yeah and money was a big part of it so I just wanted to learn about it yep so I ran events to learn about it to build relationship with the experts then I got eyed did it for a while until I got it yeah now I'm still looking after my
existing clients yeah but I'd rather support advisors than do it what was the other question the other question is why here yeah I didn't know and I'm going to tell you what you're here because you're here because um which leads on from the finance you developed the financial podcast about Financial Freedom and financial literacy and whatnot we interviewed all these old people as you say um so you built up this massive podcast you became I don't know whatever stats you want to throw it at it was pretty popular though um and you were one of the first I suppose in that space in New Zealand as well to like consistently put out a podcast yeah and so that grew pretty well and you grew a
pretty good audience not just on there but on Tech talk like repurposing it there LinkedIn you got known for it as well you've been put in the room with how many podcast episodes you've done now 300 so [ __ ] how many people have done 300 episodes on a podcast how many funnily enough 90 Give Up by 30 episodes yeah so you're probably in the 0.1 percent of podcasts right like in terms of number of podcasts well then another 90 quit by 23. so I'm in the 0.001 that's [ __ ] outrageous yeah so just put out podcasts and you'll beat all the clips that's all you've done right yeah determination to not be your pleb yeah yeah that's that's my goal of life so with this podcast and
this audience that you grew like it got fairly large like your tick tock's done really well like you you're really early on that you kept telling me about being on Twitter yeah you should do it yeah okay I'll just try to [ __ ] it off I'll just try it then I'll [ __ ] tense what you've done tanking still and then one randomly goes well so I mean you've been sitting around that 14 15K mark for a little while now but but you were real early in the say when did you start putting Tick Tock out uh two years ago two years 22 oh 20 20. yeah yeah and was it always podcast related or did you do other stuff you did some I remember you doing some
like Trend stuff I did everything yeah I just kept trying I've learned I suck at video editing yep but I'm good at interviewing people yeah yeah so yeah so randomly I'll just make no idea what I'm doing see randomly 46k will just take off and I'll just keep making with no real strategic thought yeah um yeah so then I realized okay well maybe things are grouped in certain ways to get put in front of people so I was trying to fix and dancers still bombed yeah like I'll get views but no one wants to follow me because Finance is boring or because I suck yeah probably both yeah yeah I mean Finance is a pretty boring topic like there's a guy that rinses it mortgage
I can't remember Financial engineer oh yeah 70k yeah followers but like his creativity is just [ __ ] amazing yeah it's got nothing to do with the topic a it's all to do if the character development that's what we've figured out um but what I want to get to with this so you've got like 15 000 let's call it um you've got a pretty decent crowd on LinkedIn as well following you wait just to tell you how much I suck I made a thousand Tick Tock videos I found out did you count them all yeah you can look it up oh you look at oh yeah of course it's in there it's that's right it's I think you Google your name yeah uh not that I ever
do that and uh you can see how many videos can we can we do this yeah while we're doing that can we try Google how many tick tocks has Ryan J Melton made absolutely um but you've got this pretty large audience and the last time we spoke is that you're now trying to transition so you've got your little um options a little bit you've got your client base that you've had from your financial career and now you're transitioning into what's the company called again total media and you're trying to culture appropriation I love it [ __ ] let's cancel him for that that's so good well it doesn't show up so I was all kept but it's about a thousand it was four a day for a
few years these would just be tick tocks it might be some actual some stunt uh stuff down below but um I don't know so I got famous in the gay community at some point oh that's good yeah I peed myself and I had tight pants um I went to bed yeah I wet my bed until I was 21. and then some Plumbing doesn't work so I peed myself a little bit on this video and um the you know pants were tight yeah it's on Tech Park it's one of the most viewed videos how do we do this how long ago was it if if you search Ryan J Melton then most liked I don't know if you can do it on a desktop though it
might come up I was talking about mirroring and matching like a way to build rapport with people yeah okay and videos four fouls I can do it on my phone but essentially yeah so oh yeah there it is there's one of them this one if you read the comments don't look at the video it's [ __ ] but look look at the filth why do you have a semi no one is listening now still just staring need to double the shake time one guy copy pasted it and said um how can we expect anything you say or if you peed yourself and did it on like six videos it's not like it's child trauma or anything so yeah make some videos people so the video of you
peeing yourself is this the one that's one of them that's one of them and why did you put it up because [ __ ] it I just want people to get value out of it if I need to sell my body to help them get value out of it then whatever are you doing this for like you talk often when we speak about no strategy behind it but what is behind it why why are you then putting these up I just want to help people with fulfilling lives this the whole [ __ ] objective and I know that you can reach a large amount of people on these platforms I don't want to be famous I think it's saltwater for the Thirsty I don't like making videos I just
know it's the place to be yep hints probably why they suck because I don't like doing it yep um but that's why essentially I want to create a platform that can reach a large amount of people that can invoke action so I was petrified of talking people so did commissionally selling to face my fear so work that out stalks together people but now I can sort of string a sentence together yeah and then uh then I was like Finance is important learned that now I'm doing brand so how can I reach a large amount of people make a difference yeah and like when you say make a difference I mean that's a pretty Broad thing to say what does that mean for you yeah give
everyone the opportunity to live a fulfilling life what does that mean that means that everyone has the opportunity to deliver for the Philly now basically means they have they didn't realize that's what you said yes it's groundbreaking [ __ ] no but what does that mean because like heaps of people talk [ __ ] like that like oh I want to [ __ ] save the world or I want to do all this [ __ ] and I want to do all that crap I want to help people with this but like how does that actually help anyone what what is a fulfilling life and is it Universal yeah I think you know when I I spent a few thousand hours with people with the over the age of 65 and ask them
what's important about life and they said the same thing every time just purpose connection and Independence yeah Independence is health and financial so they don't burden people so that's all it's like how can you surround yourself with people that create a sense of community and self-worth and support you and how do you create an environment within yourself to manage that and then how do you have a reason to suffer because you are going to suffer and I think that is universal explain that to me more that how do you have a reason to suffer Yes Man search for meaning you know that book no it's this guy he's ends up in um Auschwitz or one of those those cans and he says a man that
understands his why can handle almost any how and that's the thing if you're suffering without reason without justification if it's not working towards something because if you're gonna die I'm gonna die someone you love will die this is going to be a natural disaster and you know you hope you're good at swimming and tsunamis because you're [ __ ] like at some point things are going to be bad so you need a reason for that to be something that you can push through some people have Gods some people have purpose whatever and so for you when you talk when you think about this I mean not just Tick Tock because there's there's Tick Tock there's um Instagram there's LinkedIn there's your networking there's your whole your whole
world right yeah um when you're saying you want to help people live a more fulfilling life how is this doing it I'm not saying it isn't I'm just saying how is it doing it well the whole objective with any video is how can I create this in a way that will help them reposition their thoughts or help them to take an action and the biggest component of that is community and I think that's where I fundamentally fail yeah I need to have a way to facilitate a community for them that they're held accountable as part of that social pressure and their own accountability but here has just been knowledge like how can I explain Finance in a way that makes sense so money is not
an issue for them yeah and then how do I put people that have good ideas that are good leaders how do I give them a voice yeah yeah because the whole way you're going to change the world is help parents and help leaders yeah most children are [ __ ] by the age of three that sounds bad but most children their fundamental underlying belief systems created by the age of three yeah so if you have good parenting and a good Network around them at that age then you know they're for the most part gonna do okay yeah and then after that it's like leaders leaders in organizations leaders you know staff members that don't think they're leaders but they really are yeah yeah cool and you know
when you talk about those financial stuff so you put a post up can we go on LinkedIn um you put a post up the other day about this new Journey that you're going on and there was um you talking about uh your own financial situation and I remember you putting in there that uh it was actually quite a well-written post something something 20K in personal debt 20K in recurring removing annual revenue yeah like how does that like when you when you're sharing that story which is a pretty vulnerable place to put you in what how old are you now 31 yeah so like for a 31 year old to be able to out there putting that starting something new and fresh like it's pretty like
a raw piece of advice especially around someone who's just done 300 episodes on a financial cost and then he turns around he's like I'm 20K and dead right like one what was what was your thinking around that why did you do that why did you think it was important to share that with your community yeah I think yeah as I say fundamentally I want people to view this in a way that's inspirational so that they can see it and also I don't want someone to you know fight down five years down the line oh you had it easy you're full of [ __ ] so I'm like I'll put it out now yeah so then you don't have that excuse so you can go do it yeah
yeah so it's about like almost um just so people can't call you out for being some privileged dude who's got it you're thinking ahead of you see no it's it's more it's more like I play victim I'm a very talented victim yep I go to this group every week and they call me a magician I'll talk a whole lot of [ __ ] and I'll do very talented victim there is [ __ ] clipping yeah yeah use that so I'm a very talented victim so one smoking me out putting it out there but then also when I come across a person that has that similar mentality I want to smoke out their excuses yeah because they'll might say it was different for you it's harder for you I can't
do it it's not so much to be like hey I did it I didn't have help mum's helped me buy cars I'm privileged to [ __ ] like there's not yeah okay yeah like she chipped in half for a car or avasta for a few hundred people don't have that yep yep absolutely yeah so I'm it's not a privileged thing it's more just that I want to talk to a person in the future and not have that as an excuse yeah okay so you so you essentially want to be able to go I'm going to do this well I'm gonna try to do it again and if I do do it and I kill it you know where I started from so don't give me your [ __ ]
excuses if you're starting from a worse place yeah or a similar place I should say maybe if they're from always basically got something to say but um but even but what you're essentially saying is like I haven't just started with a million dollars to get a million and one dollars I started from minus twenty thousand years to try to get to 20 plus thousand dollars personal loan 13 yeah it's crazy can you read this yeah why didn't you read it give us the full waiter if I don't get any new clients in five months I'll run out of money I'm only sharing that to motivate you when I pull it off people are gonna going to consider if they can do it too the excuses
will start floating in I don't have enough money it was easier for you it didn't have my I didn't have my parents support So purely just to [ __ ] on all your future rationalizations here's my current situation personal loan of twenty thousand dollars at 13.9 percent income of twenty thousand dollars let the games begin there you go and I love the photo too good yeah yeah that's me right there I cannot wait to watch those three surface yeah and you will because like you're [ __ ] stubborn that's why it'll work because you're a stubborn prick it's why you got the 300 episodes of a podcast when everyone else is up at three yeah and nothing happened for two years like you know the price that wins the
money coming in I'm like I don't know but we've got 11 million of funds under management I just get a very small percentage of it yeah yeah so what's the plan then how are you going to do this so you've got so what I wanted to start before is that there's 15 000 on Tick Tock you got three in a bit thousand on LinkedIn your LinkedIn audience is pretty engaged as well and you know a lot of the people you've got on your podcast that come from here um so you've got a you've got a community it's there we know it is it's how we know each other it's how we know a lot of the same people because we've done the same thing how
do you yeah what's the plan how are you going to turn that into five clients and how are you going to pay off that loan and pull things back to the way you want it yeah we'll basically make 10 000 mistakes which I've done very quickly yeah which is good but I've I thought about every time I would explain the offering it'd confuse the [ __ ] out of people yeah so now what I do is I just help people make podcasts successful yeah but it fundamentally what that is how I'm going to do it is interview people that I want as clients and give them value and then make them aware of what I do and then all of my content is kind of funnel to
a call to action page to be a guest yeah and then I can funnel those to other people yeah okay so I partner with you guys so you can actually make it look good and actually get views and then I'll just get people to turn up yeah and then just think strategically on who can we have that will grow the audience how how can we position it in a way that's going to be favorable for a good outcome for them because that's all I'm good at is understanding people and strategy yeah I just do the other stuff because I should be doing it I think it's important when we first spoke about this um and you know where was your head because like when we
first spoke about this what did I I essentially teach you I said dude you're [ __ ] yeah I was like I mean and and like it's a good thing to touch on because I think people get some value out of this that you came in to the market thinking what and from my opinion and correct me if I'm wrong here but I felt like you came into this offer designing an offer that you felt was reasonable for you to pay or that you thought it was a reasonable thing in your world but you're selling it to people who are not you who run multi-million dollar businesses or you know have you know like one of your first potential customers had like 30 something consultants in there
and their brand and their brand and you're like hey it's 2K a month and we'll do 16 episodes talk me through that because that's pretty common for a lot of people when they start business even when I start a business I realized like pretty early on I'm way too cheap for what I'm trying to do and had to put my price up like what when you first thought about what how did you come to those pricing like what was in your head going on there yeah well I think an important thing to realize in any sort of sale is your the price you charge is proportionate to your self-worth so that was the underlying thing I didn't know if I could do it I didn't
know how to do it so I thought if I charge a certain point then and and I chose that volume because then I could guarantee success even if I do it poorly if I can just make people turn up if they interview you know for their dream client like 208 of their dream clients a year yeah and they close a couple you know good things are going to happen yeah but yeah as as talking to you yeah it was realizing that you know it's it's worth more than that there's value to the content um and then also I said no to you at the start so yeah were you like oh I'm gonna help you you should charge more I'm like no no [ __ ] yourself
I'm sorry email yeah but I'm so sorry I was a dick yeah I'm still available well it's just I say no and then I think about it yeah which is normal but what isn't normal is you coming back and swallowing your pride and asking that's not normal I'm good at swallowing my pride yeah so many people aren't they people suck at it like they're really bad at going um I [ __ ] up here or I made a really bad mistake I wish I could reverse this and then it's like you can you can just ask a person like which is what you did you just you and you came back like any and you openly like acknowledged it too like I was I was being a
dick I was being stupid yeah I want this so many people don't do that and then they lose these opportunities where it was a win-win opportunity like it's I'm not a charity yeah you're [ __ ] not a charity I'm definitely getting money out of this but it was win-win right because it was like um we came up for a structure that allows both the bus to have the success um and play to our strengths and you need to tap into a infrastructure but like I think that's important for people to hear is that a lot of people their first answer is no not that one hell people like I I say it to these guys like sometimes about like you're not in [ __ ] high school anymore
like I'm not your teacher telling you giving you instructions and you don't have to be defiant like you're allowed to accept stuff from people and um I say it in different ways to shine but Sean's a good example of me doing this too plenty of times where I will say stuff uh things will happen not just me but people will happen where they get defiant because um their default is no but then they don't know how to come back and go on actually I'm being a dick Sean's better I still like people's there's the opposite as well some people say yes and then just like don't do it yeah man even worse right like yeah yes I'll do it 100 and then like months down
the line and it isn't done that's another thing as well right yeah it's even worse I agree Drew talks about it a lot Drew Knowles who is like um people aren't very good at declining offers when I give offers or give them I expect no one to come back like I've given you stuff since and not heard from you not because I don't think you're doing it because I think you're probably out there just trying to [ __ ] work your life out at the moment but I don't even expect you to come back yeah you know and if you do it's like oh [ __ ] that's awesome surprise yeah and then but I do that all the time now like I'll say stuff to people I meet
teams at my team whoever just give them the advice give them the offers and then realize that they may say yeah cool that sounds really great and they're probably not going to come back and so you just can't decline or they say no straight away and then they still won't come back very few people like you do actually come back and ask so moving on from that um I want to sort of get into this thing like how have you got almost 20 000 people in your community and why are you what what is the struggle for you to convert that into people who'll pay you money why what's what's the challenge there for you at the moment uh well the main challenge is the
journey yep um because you know people still reach out so essentially over a period of a year once nothing happened for two years four million dollars of funds under management came in whichever lifetime value of the client may be 1.2 mil you know over 30 years so it's like it's not great it's not awful so it works but fundamentally what happens is same thing in selling is that they need a clear path forward on what you are for how you offer and how you're going to deliver on it and in a way make the decision on their behalf and that's fundamentally where I've failed on the content is not taking them on the journey which is actually something I'm addressing now is focusing on the
conversion piece yep and I'm using click funnels of course you're [ __ ] up yeah and then also the targeted component yeah and and but then as you say with B2B you need to make it you know the cost acquisition is doesn't necessarily justify the expense but then you also hear that guy that I tagged you and Luke the accountant putting like 50k into the county practice Yeah so I think it works yeah and my solution to the problem is to have a call to action that gives value in exchange for details take them on the journey through an email sequence and then that positions you in a place where they might reach out to do a strategic discussion have you ever struggled to get someone you've
called into a conversation like a either podcast or meeting or no not usually not it's rare but lately lately which is bizarre yeah I made 90 calls two percent said yes they're coming on a podcast before is 90 yeah but yeah what do you think changed there well one I was calling construction workers and civil engineers but you want to be on a business podcast so there's a bit of straight like a strategic uh and then also you know it was a different podcast there's less social proof there's less quality yeah um and then I was also calling connections as well as outside of my connections when I was doing it for me yep I don't think I was desperate because I record the calls
yeah and I listened to it I'm like do I sound desperate like nah but usually when you call for yourself or your podcast they say yes it's a pretty high thing right yeah and so like that was always saying it I think we talked about this last time too there's always real puzzles me about this conundrum you're in is that like the hardest thing for people in sales to do let's get their target audience sitting across from them on the table it is it's the same thing we deal with all the time in our business people like cools all these people like us like how do I get them into a coffee meeting I'm like I don't know you just ask them right just say
hey you want to grab a coffee and they're like and they're all too A lot of people too scared to do that but even once they do if they haven't built up the community properly most often they're going to get well they're not going to get it no they're going to get it nothing like people just won't respond so you've got like this ability to convert 90 of the people you ask into something so you've got the top of funnel like just unlock right like whenever you want someone nine times out of ten you're gonna get them in the seat in front of you yeah if they answer the call yeah so where what's the challenge I'm going from that conversation to giving me this
money like as in them giving you money for what you what offer you have ah well I just haven't asked this is really what happened because essentially what happened I took on a client promised I'll do full podcast a week and then do all the videos yeah yeah and you couldn't work every day and then had a conversation like look I can't deliver on this and then also calling on um people that don't want to be on a business podcast yeah because they they told me what they wanted I was like well let's see if I can yeah and I'll talk to them we talk [ __ ] and then they're like oh nah I was like why are they saying that um so that that is
basically as I made a promise to the person I'd like to deliver on the agreements I make yeah um couldn't now I'm trying to solve that yeah while also being like Oh we've got this new partnership he's gonna bring someone in yeah I've got to eat too brother I wanna go um so now so that first one you did so how many people did you talk to and just telling myself to get that first client how many people oh that first call yeah okay yeah you have a 90 success rate of getting people to sit in front of you currently a hundred percent success rate to get the design on well yeah I forgot I didn't get their Management Consultant okay so 50 oh yeah
see currently 50 Cent conversion I know those numbers aren't real because you'll do more and the more you yeah you'll come closer to the real Target but you've got to you're pretty good at sales you told me that you can teach people how to do that too so you to teach someone you need to be pretty good at yourself sorry you've got a lead generation strategy that's off the charts and you've got and you know how to convert yeah so where's the challenge I haven't sold to anyone why because well here's the victim let's see I'm just I'll say something here yeah um hang on Ryan's Mark's moving a little bit if you move it just a little bit up the table by your glass
perfect cool continue thank you I know that editing life is fine um yeah so essentially I think I've been done maybe four podcasts and uh I I pitched one and then we're in discussions and then they're going to do commission only which is stupid so I haven't I haven't been in front of people and I didn't know I didn't believe I could deliver on what I said I would so I had a client that I wanted to test and get all the infrastructure right also make excuses to not sell basically I haven't sold um and the reason I haven't sold is could be [ __ ] excuses and yeah I'm doing it again that's okay yeah um so so as as something that is struggling is just
like confidence in that you can you have an actual product is it confident yeah it's fundamentally I don't think I can book four podcasts a month at the moment I haven't worked that out a month a week a month a month so I moved it to a month cool I moved the first clients I've had the yarn I've been like okay I [ __ ] up I worked every day to try and make it happen I'll refund the first client whatever yeah um so we have an agreement now I have recurring Revenue so I won't run out of money as quick yeah cool I'm losing 200 a month yeah after everything because I live cheap peace for life that's less than [ __ ] Uber losers so let's put
it that way sure um okay so there's a confidence issue there on like can I deliver on the product yes that you've got at the moment how do you overcome that like what what will give you the confidence that you can do that well as long as I know I can book four podcast guests a month on someone else's podcast we're off yeah um and I think I'll probably realize what it was was you're selling to construction workers about a business podcast what so it's interesting because like when we talk speak straight mate no so when we talked yeah I said to you part of the strategy is that like we can book people you've managed a client all managed to podcasts so we already
do that right book people and we've got a client who runs a construction podcast and he does four a month wow and we haven't I mean we don't I wouldn't say we have no issues but like like getting people on it but we get people on it right and we've we've had people through it so and the reason I'm bringing this up is like it's a common thing for lots of people to make these excuses of why they can't do something but not accepting the help that's around them and it's only that I had to learn real early like not not in this business because in this business I've done nothing but ask people for help all the whole way but in my career as
a hotelier I was like the stubborn kid who thought he [ __ ] knew everything and I could show everyone up um and then it just led to me burning out or doing stupid [ __ ] or making mistakes or getting fired multiple times um but using the help around you to accelerate like so accelerate your growth because your value is the audience right it's the audience and your ability your trust with them to get them into meetings yeah trust yeah trust would be something to do well yeah you've got a real good Community right and that's why you have a 90 success rate of asking people for coffee same as me because I'm the same if I ask people for coffee that they it like this is going
to sound real arrogant but they almost feel privileged to come into coffee right and that's the same because like have you ever been nervous have they been nervous yeah 100 that's the commentary they give me and I'm like I'm not that fancy have you even stopped on the street now with Tick Tock oh not The Tick Tock but LinkedIn all the time oh yeah I get stopped on the street at LinkedIn all the time like I get like clear hating because we're like walking down the street and someone would be like stand instead [ __ ] and they'll run across the road what's up and she's like [ __ ] off you're nobody [ __ ] is this yeah but like the guys went up to possibly food court the other
day and there's some people there and they're like hey hey are you guys the tendency or women watching your ticks up blah blah um so I think it was you were you there with them yeah yeah yeah so but but yeah my point of that is that if you have a community you have an audience you have the ability to get people in to the top of your pipeline um that's the value that you have yeah your your like a lot of people with an audience they mistake their value as like something else above that like they think oh now my value is getting podcast because somebody's making this no what's not the value that you have to the ecosystem is that you've built an
audience in a community that's valuable and now you're going to sell that value to essentially me to make podcasts for these people and then you get to make money out of it it's the same with like a real estate agent they don't do [ __ ] all except facilitate some [ __ ] and they get paid stupid amounts of money because they have some trust with an audience who says Hey I want you to sell my house they know how to do it they take it to people and then they're in between and and I think a lot of people like forget their value of an audience of what it actually means to have that no one like I shouldn't say no one that's that's a lie very few
people in New Zealand have an audience has engaged in as large as yours in the business Community like you know that right like yeah there's only we know all the guys who have it yeah like we know all of their [ __ ] so yeah Their audience yeah and we know all of them they all know us there's only about 30 of us maybe maybe a little bit more yeah who are that active yeah natural that engaged audience um especially in Auckland there's probably only about that many I've interviewed them all exactly yeah exactly I wanted Their audience so I called them exactly right um so here's why we know each other exactly yeah so I guess my point of it is like and it's saying to
like stress on it's like why are we trying to why are you trying to worry about the other thing you're selling when actually the value that you're selling is you're selling to me your audience yeah that's what you're really selling yeah and like when you figure that out you're like okay cool Stan I've got the audience you do all the production and [ __ ] and it doesn't have to be me like it could have been any anyone that you could have gone to and you could have gone like look I want to partner with you you do a thing that I want to sell Well they suck to be honest hey they suck who most people Yeah well yeah that's what I mean like like who's
doing it better than you guys oh look compliment at this level at our level where the people that our audiences can pay and afford there isn't really in terms of the setup you have to go into the [ __ ] proper full-on production now if you go if you go to full production they do some [ __ ] ads they pay six million dollars for and it breaks even yeah congrats because you got a name yeah no I agree I 100 agree I would never [ __ ] do it um so yeah they look at our level I definitely think at this production level yeah there isn't much um but see how that that changes the conversation does it not for you like what's still playing on your mind then if
you if you no if you can put if you can help put me in front of four guests for this first client so I know that I can if I can do something for them I'm making average videos I just want them to get business yeah is it there's like this old dude told me one time that like am I the old no yeah people always look at the snake not the Apple so like when asking for help you're always looking at what could possibly go wrong reaching out to Stan I mean as an example like what he could take from you blah blah rather than what he could give and like I do it all the time like everyone does it we're always looking
at the risk and by being able to give a little bit away or reaching out for help it means that you're opening it up so it's not all yours but then you're not looking at what you can actually gain from that as well is that an element of it too yeah yeah I understand we just got schooled by a 22 year old on life I think that's one of the best things um can we keep rolling yeah working nice or you look you're breathing heavily like sometimes I'm Breathing heavily I don't know what's happened uh the lights are on but yeah I agree I I know I'm being willing to ask for help and knowing what to ask help for but funnily mentally I feel
guilty that I have to live in what I said I would and I want to put as long as I know that they have 4 four guests a month for the next three months then I'll just go all in on me yeah and then do her videos on the weekend yeah watching videos or me so let's break this down because this this might be beneficial yeah you're all tactical here people don't talk like this let's have um this this client what are they like we won't talk who the client is and then that way we can talk real openly about the whole situation right so how much do they pay you uh a grand plus GST yep and then 25 of the first three months
that they close which they charge Seven Grand three times yep 21 so and ten percent did you say 25 oh 25 cent okay that's not too bad so decent negotiation what's 50 then I we need a recurring Revenue so let's just call it five grand this is about yeah it's about right that's right it's 5 250 lessons Okay so 6250 is the potential earnings if you can get one of those four people to sign do you think you can do more than that wonderful oh it depends on them yeah if they can close them because all I'm doing is putting them in front of them yeah so maybe we need to just take out the take out the commission right because you can't guarantee that
you can't build a business model on that no no because I can't guarantee the outcome no it can't guarantee the outcome so a thousand dollars and then what are you doing so you're doing four podcast episodes yeah um two a week yeah two podcast episodes a week with the thumbnail and uploading and all that jazz wait so that's eight a month yep so but I'm not booking the guests now I'm still I'm still doing the video but I book four guests a month so one will be okay their way of doing it so that would be my way so your book for podcast guess yeah you produce Eight Episodes yep and then I do 14 videos a week yeah 14 videos using that piece of
[ __ ] repurpose dot IO yeah it works are you posting on Facebook reels yeah because it didn't look like you were nah I don't know you are I don't think it's turning into real Zay I think it just goes up as Facebook video yeah no you gotta be real because you're missing it's the the best it's better than Tick Tock now um anyway no they do I use it no no I think the way we've got it set up wasn't working because I had to look the other day gotcha um 14 videos per week So when you say videos you've been talking about like little short clips here 30 seconds or less yeah so usually so less than 30 second Clips holy [ __ ] so that is
56 Clips a month yeah plus 80 episodes so 64 pieces of content for one client or just you no for this is for one client and they're paying you a thousand dollars for that bargain can we do some quick math there that's pretty hard for me to do zero times oh you're gonna work it out 15 bucks 15 video Yeah correct so you know what do you wanna know I was real [ __ ] I'm running from India I pay my guys in the Philippines more than that to eat it just got some Filipino people como esta Brothers help me out how much because that's worth my time they edit one video because so we've taken the editing levels up to a sort of different level as
well but I reckon it's like 15 to 20 dollars per clip we pay them once we average it out so you're getting paid the same as some dude good in Philippines but but that's pretty crazy right yeah no no it's pretty crazy so so especially if we can't deliver on the commission component exactly so the commission components where you really are going to make the bank because that's 5K a pop if you can do that um this particular client what's their capacity for new clients I think they can do it was either 10 or 18 from memory they can handle they can handle or they can handle new 10 days 10 new ones okay so there's potential for 50 to um what's that 5 8
40 90k and additional Revenue yeah and I just like them which is probably not a good business model but you know what's interesting about this like this here this math is I do this with so many people who come through the door and it always works out like this yeah they're always charging below minimum wage when they really start to break it down and account for [ __ ] they didn't account for like um you know because we we're doing 15 per clip but how long does it take you to do on average One Clip uh probably three an hour three an hour yeah some bubbling I'm making forty five dollars an hour brother that's why they're [ __ ] wow just kidding that's just for the editing yeah
well I'm doing the I'm doing the long form while I'm doing the short form pushed two buttons this person just sends it to you yeah so using Riverside yeah um so all you're doing is editing and then scheduling or no you're not scheduling yeah oh yeah okay the uploading part yeah so you've got to be doing stuff whilst uploading yeah otherwise you get 15 an hour I've optimized it because I hate it it's like so I just do as fast as humanly possible yeah um because I was making you know 70 pieces of content a week for years while being an advisor yeah and now I'm still trying to do me and then there and then call and not deliver why have you chosen this
Avenue to help people if you hate it you know what I mean like um great question a great question you're killing me today Snake Man allergies now it's fundamentally part of the plan which is I need to build a team that can reach a large audience yep and then I just support that team but I gotta suck it up initially or partner with people that love it I hope you love it I assume you do sometimes I [ __ ] hate it Sean hates everything there's a focus which is why I'm forcing you to do this one oh yeah okay she's like Connor where are you why am I doing this how does this work just talk about video editing she did all that she did all
the hard yards building our podcast service and now she's like I'm too good for this Sean's not a production person she's not a do what she's a thinker you're a thank you yeah that's where she'll be in her future not not so I gotta write some books so you can manage people yeah okay all right no more pressure good um as we start to wrap it up I think it was interesting conversation because I think we've had this a few times but I think it adds value to a lot of people yeah because a lot of people start off their journey in this business going well actually people start off worse than you because people start off with no Community yeah and then try to
do this and now they have two things they have no value and they have no community and no business and they're trying to build it in your eyes do you think it has been an appropriate way round to do it like just build an audience where you've had a job or you've had a career and then try to use that audience to monetize later or do you think that there's a combination of the two or do you think that maybe actually you need more experience and then go get audience yeah I think the the the longer you can go without selling the more meaningful community that you have so a lot of business owners they start out they've got to put keep the lights on
and they sell you know they're trying to go home on the first date every time like it's or some stock image yeah so I think that's being able to Live While building a community is the dream that's perfect because you can just give give give and then you work out how to do the ask and then good things happen yeah I'll let you know when they happen well I think what has happened I think one it has happened two it's just about business modeling now and that and that is that comes in because how many businesses have you run previous to this new one none yeah exactly this one and a lot of people like get mistaken with me because they're like oh this is
your first business I was like yeah but I've run businesses before I ran eight figure hotels for 10 15 years old operations like I didn't just walk in here and start but where I like I I also think that Community should come first before you try to sell to it was the same thing I did like I made zero dollars for the first I don't know eight months of being back in New Zealand when I first started it I think the difference well I think like some people missing which is where you're at at the moment and a lot of people start off as like you get the audience but along the way of getting their audience you haven't thought about what are the skill
sets they need to run the business and then they fall over there or they don't ask for the help they don't ask for the Apple they just go straight excuse me but it hit you know I don't know why yeah it was a good one I'm gonna use that I'm gonna steal it from Sean I'm going to say it so much that people just think it's mine it was some random like sound engineer one of them Christian rock music yeah yeah just threw in some Christian analogies now look okay cool we're coming up to the top of the hour so that was cool um I try to get into some stuff that's a little bit different and I knew that you know you're currently on
this path which is cool um if you think about your goal and what you're trying to do in five months how many clients well yeah what's your target again I'll run out of money yeah that's not a Target no no but what do you need to not run out of money oh just one client ah so the one you haven't got now is enough huh there's one client you got now enough or no I lose 200 a month okay so you need one more client and then okay so if anyone's watching us I'm I'm going to benefit the most out of this situation but Ryan this is a snake I'm the snake right look at me I'm leathery as [ __ ] Ryan is looking for some
gifts he's built one of the largest successful podcasts um in New Zealand and business World um and he can help you do the same and actually it's a [ __ ] awesome technique for getting a prospect list yeah put together a pipeline I know it is it's huge it's super successful it's successful for all our clients we built forum for us um and it's a real low-cost way of selling like as in like it doesn't cost you as a person much yeah because you just get to talk to someone qualify them online on live TV um about what it is so if you're looking for someone get in touch with them so he can make me some money cool cheers I agree cool done thank you that's
fun Kurt
