I posted one Bakery video and it just blew up thanks for coming on the show thanks for being on the podcast thanks for having me no worries why don't you quickly introduce yourself and then we'll get started cool so my name is Chenise AKA multif food Bay and I eat food on the internet I love that um tell me as I said off camera how did you get started in this and and and if it's not food eating like where did the content creation journey start yeah cool so for me I've always loved food um even as a young kid I used to always watch um like the food channel oh yeah cartoons here and there but always be watching the Food Channel what was
the shows um just whatever was on I loved like Nigella cuz she was on quite a lot back then n pretty much anything that was on um cuz I love the whole thing I love watching the prep the cooking um I like to see other people eating and experiencing food as well so um I guess it was kind of natural for me that I would have an interest in making food content myself later on in life um but yeah it literally just started because me and my partner eat out pretty much four to five times a week which I don't recommend that's a lot um but yeah we already eat out a lot so we just thought why not just film it and make some
content out of it love it when did that start when was like what year are we in um so is that recent how recent are you yeah not even a year so I think it was June last year so I must have seen you like only a few months in I actually saw you when I was in New York so that was like October November yeah a few months into it yeah pretty much and before that had you ever made content um yeah so I tried to do the whole YouTube in maybe like 2017 and my first lot of content was actually mukbangs Okay cool so um I was just doing the typical like Wendy's just the fast food stuff kind of replicating what I
had seen American YouTubers do um but I found that the admin involved in YouTube was a bit too much for me at the time and it kind of made me lose interest um so I kind of put the YouTube to the side and started that's when I started doing my clothing brand always hungry okay um so from then up until June last year is when I started making food content again really okay okay and so 2017 to 2022 um that was bit of YouTube how long was it YouTube for only a little while maybe eight months okay eight months maybe and then when did the always hungry what year did you start that um so that would have been yeah 2018 it's been around for
a long time that's crazy okay and um when you are running always hungry like how are you how were you promoting that on just on its own channels as its own clothing line so initially I was just making clothes for myself yeah um just wearing that around and then um people started to show interest in some of the things that I was wearing um so I would just sell it to them I created my own website on um Shopify cool um I had maybe two two to three items available but um yeah people were showing more and more interest so I started designing a couple more things checking them up on the website until we eventually had a solid range of maybe like s to
10 items okay cool yeah um and then just had that consistently running in the background really okay and uh how has that Journey gone so far like up until you started the multifood bay how was that Journey um it there was a lot of um a lot of lessons in the journey because none of it I hadn't learned anything to do with business or e-commerce prior um it was just all the school of YouTube really just YouTube tutorials um so yeah just watching tutorials how to set up my Shopify um anytime a problem came up just quickly give it a quick search on YouTube Y and that was pretty much how I learned to do everything cool yeah do you mind me asking how old
you I'm 31 this year oh yeah so you're still super young you are you're super young um you're younger than me so that makes um okay so cool so we fast forward so that's cool I didn't realize that always hungry always hungry was that much earlier which is cool that's great it always almost seems like it's a response to the show but it's not it's like a your personality is exactly always hungry I love it and it means so much more than just food I'm obviously some ambition yeah yeah definitely so there's the two meanings so obviously always hungry the obvious answer um but then it as it kind of um grew it changed and added another meaning of like just always striving for more
um so if you're I don't know you're boxing you're playing basketball in business just always hungry and just striving for more I love that that's cool yeah oh that's cool that's another layer cuz I didn't realize cuz I like I said I didn't really I just watched all your content as opposed to like really digging in and I purposely didn't dig in to who you were cuz I knew we well I was hoping that we finally get to absolutely and I saw the I saw the thing recently and I was looking at always hungry cuz you know your first items are the tray yeah and so like it just clicked to my head oh this is a this is a funny brand like a cool
brand because it makes sense for eating absolutely but that's so much such a better story when I find out like it's been going for what six years now yeah pretty much yeah yeah that's crazy okay so tell me the we got into this content Journey we started doing multifood B um when you started that last year was it um new channel New Concept and just went all in on it or did you Char and era like tell me about that Journey at the beginning so my Instagram I've just kept it as the same multifood Bay just kind of took over my personal Instagram um so yeah that's pretty much just all food now with some bits of me here and there but um I created
a separate Tik Tok account um but it's funny initially that page was actually mul Tech Bay oh yeah because I was planning on making content based around my journey working in Tech yeah um and I think I posted one Bakery video and it just blew up it kind of maybe within 3 days got 100,000 and compared to the maybe 8,000 or so that I had been getting that was huge for me um and then one of my friends suggested um just changing it to multifood Bay instead of tech Bay so I was like that makes sense nice um yeah that's started making the tech videos um yeah so I had a handful up maybe seven or eight um just yeah kind of around my journey
of getting into Tech y um and then from there just the food took over that's cool um are they still there um you jelly them they should still be there cool just a little bit further down scroll back as far as I can watch them um okay so we started that what so that was June um June is when the food started the tech stuff was uh bit early 202 yeah no worries so we got these food ones were they always I haven't watched that far back are they always the same style um so as an eating in your car that's the ones I've watched the most of so that's probably like the core of my content would be eating in the car um there'll
be some occasions where we might film in the restaurant I've seen a couple of that yeah but I'll still keep it kind of intimate like I'll just if I've got a drink in front of me I'll just plop my phone right there have it um recording me on their internal camera so yeah that's not very often though predominantly it's it's in the car yeah yeah and in that like in creating that style how did you figure that out like what went into that process of figuring out there St did you just happy accident or did you plan that out um no it's literally we were already doing it years before we decided to film it so it just made sense like the the tables that
I'm eating from and the steering wheel um I already been using that personally for maybe a year and a half before I added it into a video so um that's why it just kind of made sense to start selling it with my own brand CU it's a product that I actually use um and I can promote it in the videos whenever I post some content so just made sense and but then also just like the style of the video the setup the the the way you tell the story the way you do it whether or not you even thinking about it that way like how did that come about did you just land did you just film and see it happen or did you plan
it out um there was a bit of trial and error so initially at the beginning I kind of wanted to do longer um One minute-ish videos um but and there was some changes that I had made with post production so just putting certain Clips in different places so we've kind of fine-tuned it down to a routine where it's now the same steps every time but we kind of had to tral Ander a couple of things to get down to it so um yeah yeah just trial and error really trial and eror that's cool um tell me about the like I mean you might have done an I just haven't seen it but like you don't speak do you speak in earlier videos um the tech
stuff yes Tech stuff but the food stuff no no no tell me about that choice yeah so that's something I consciously decided um to make different with my videos cuz I noticed that majority if not all of the food reviews um from New Zealand I'll say um is all talking and their style of content is quite similar whereas they'll kind of show the shop the food like the decor and everything and me for myself my attention span is quite quick so it kind of bored me I'll just skip head to the food part so that's something I consciously decided to implement for my own videos so straight away the first shots it's food food food um and yeah the talking is something that I decided
to not do because some times you just be like I don't want to hear what you say I just want I just want to see the food um so yeah Trucking a popular song or just a song that I like over the top just seemed a lot easier yeah I think it's super effective I think you can watch it without being annoyed yeah sometimes like sometime I don't mean to sound like a dick I what you mean you know what I mean like sometimes I just want to know about the food the food's the hero like it's nice to hear your opinion but like I just want to see the food really exactly I just want to see um all the different elements of it
I want like I like the fact that you've got like quite big clean shots of stuff so there's no like you don't get too cinematic yeah sometimes it's just like a bit boring when it's all cinematic like no like this is not how I would look at it yeah you've kind of got it like I'm a passenger in new car yeah getting to watch you eat with me just trying to keep it as organic as possible really I love it so that was there was some conscious decision there that's pretty cool definitely and and a bit of Tri in until you got the story structure right yeah exactly cool Okay cool so we're up to speed and that's been going well when did it really
start to take off like when did the numbers start to follow through there follow count yeah Tik Tok has been um it's just been consistently just gradually growing itself there hasn't really really been one video where it's just blown up um so like yeah every time I log into the app it's grown from when I looked at it previously um Instagram was easier to tell because that was like I think in December last year so a couple of months ago I had I think uh 5,000 followers um and then a couple weeks later we were away on holiday in sore and I all of a sudden had 8,000 and because I was on holiday I wasn't checking my phone as much so every time I'd
check there'd be like 300 new followers 500 new followers um and that yeah it just went from 8 to 12 maybe within uh a month and and a half I think it's been nice that's cool um Okay so we've got up to speed things are growing um this year like I've been watching a lot this year as well keeps coming up on my for you page too which is good because usually once you follow people it stops showing you the people it still comes out I guess I get a lot of food content which is probably Alm yeah exactly is fantastic um and so tell me about like where's this journey going going for you like why are you doing this outside of we got
to eat um so the main goal is to travel the world eat food and make content out of it love that's the end goal yeah and when you say Ingo what does that look like like when how what does that look like for you guys as soon as possible love that yeah so um we went to salmore recently like I just said um and we yeah made another conscious decision to take time out time sorry time out of our holiday to go and film some food content every day so um yeah first thing in the morning would wake up do a exercise and then the rest of the day would just be filming food content so that would be the ideal situation um wherever we
go really yeah um so yeah that really lit a fire for wanting to do it internationally um also I watch a lot of other creators that do the same thing travel the world um try the food and make content out of it who are the guys who are the people um so the main one that I watch would be the best ever Food review show Sunny yeah so watch him almost every day um we'll be like watching dinner and um watching one of his videos at the same time um there's a couple others Mark W I'm not too sure if you're familiar yeah but they're probably the two like are they Tik Tok YouTube Instagram YouTube YouTube yeah so was the goal to transition to
YouTube from a monetary point of view definitely yeah so I still have my channel um I just what sitting at um I've given that no love whatsoever so I have no idea to be honest probably under uh under 300 maybe but do you not repurpose the current content on there um that is what I'm planning on doing got it y so um I've kept that there um and that is the goal start making um maybe longer form videos with talking maybe maybe you know what I've heard just to cut in on that sorry to cut you off I've heard so we we have a YouTube consultant that's helping us with a few things and cool um with the shorts thing that's happening now he reckons
just start a new one you reckon if it's if it's had other things post up on that channel just start it with shorts and start it straight away and it'll if your content's good which yours is it'll find your KNE real fast okay ours is a [ __ ] fight like our content goes off on Tik Tok off on Instagram YouTube It's a completely different be don't reviews no but like the thing is is that like we know the content's still good yeah it's just that it doesn't understand where to send out content and it's sending it to the wrong audience who doesn't get it and all our comments like what the [ __ ] is this what am I watching why why is this on my page you
know it just doesn't know where to send it and because it sends it to these guys and then they dislike it it goes nowhere else yeah so i' I'd like maybe even a test it like create a second page and just go I mean at the end of the day even if it 3 followers are you really losing much by starting a new one I mean they're probably ghost followers by now cuz it's been so long exactly just think about that it's something that I've been thinking about recently like do I just start a new channel for for other things that we're doing y yeah yeah yeah absolutely just say to think about because uh the Youtube algorithm isn't good at changing what Niche you're
sitting in once your Channel's categorized it's really hard to pull it out whereas Tik Tok well definitely Instagram at the moment is easier to do that with um Tik Tok has been a little bit funny but it historically has been quite easy to do that with Tik Tok as well anyway sorry I cut you off there I just think about so YouTube is the main way you see it being like that's the step one of career or step two maybe step one's currently build your current following um I would say I would continue to grow my Tik Tok that would be um number one priority um and keep my Instagram going cuz that's also building up um as my Tik Tok grows um so YouTube
is something that I have in my mind that I'm going to start using more actively um but my focus is still mainly Tik Tok okay cool perfect um dream scenario what's the timeline for this new life of you of you guys um well as soon as possible like um we you guys have kids no that's also another conscious decision that we've made um yeah I know you briefly spoke to outside but we're both um pretty ambitious people and we have a lot of things that we want to achieve before we enter that phase of our lives so um yeah we've just decided maybe in the next five or so years we'll discuss if that maybe something that we want but for now for now not
yeah as like my partner and I like my wife um we don't want to have kids and we we've decided that yeah um she knows that if because it's different for a woman that they have a time limit men don't yeah so if that Chang for her 100% like I'm in y I don't want to have children but I do if she decides she needs to right cuz it's h CU she's got a time limit I can't change that but I can have kids till I die yeah you know so my my time limit doesn't go away so I it's not really fair on me to do that yeah but we did make a decision that we don't want children and it was a it's
been like a year like years in the making that decision M but it has allowed cuz we're the same super ambitious especially me like mine my ambitions on steer like like this everyone like everyone in my team at least knows that the point of this business is for global domination if we don't take over the world with this business then what's the point of doing that I feel like you need to look at your goals like that exactly yeah and and and so it's not that I I'm like super supportive in that that like people who I mean this guy wants eight kids he wants he wants a village he wants a someon village yeah I mean eventually when we do want them we probably
will have a lot too but uh yeah just not anytime soon that's for sure but I also think even that concept of like not having like having them when you want is like a big mind shift for a lot of people right yeah definitely because a lot like you must have family oh man when you having kids it's like it's a struggle to hang out with our friends because everyone has kids um but we love them we love them we love uh technically because we've been together for almost 15 years but we're just not officially yeah yeah yeah yeah we were seven years before I finally U married we just got married two months ago actually two months ago as of yesterday oh wow congrats
yeah thank you but it was the same thing we just been together for so long and we knew each other for eight years before that yeah pretty much already married you just did it officially just did it officially exactly just spent a bunch of M bunch of money to do it officially okay so sorry I cut you off there so I but I think it's interesting because a lot of people struggle with that concept of kids and life like I want the the wife the kid to pick a fence but I want to Chase this ambition M and you guys are essentially saying well we can have both right now this is the focus though and we're going to go all on on it especially
from a cultural perspective that you guys would have being like I'm half cook Island so knowing that the culture you guys come from the pressures of family yeah definitely but we've been together for so long I feel like they've just given up they give up definitely for the first but there's always that little side stab yeah oh definitely we'll be holding one of the nieces or nephews and they'll be like oh looks good on you ah that looks good on you chat a here's your child yeah my response was like everything looks good on me [ __ ] exactly he's like shut up old man um okay so tror okay so then come on give me a timeline what are you working towards um so we've both
just resigned from our jobs um so but that's not to do this fulltime yet we're getting there uh we kind of um so we're moving to Australia okay Co making the move back to Australia um to Brisbane um and that's just to kind of further our goals I feel like we can do a lot more um with our content in Australia not that we can't hear but um just to travel we'll be able to travel to the other states a lot easier you just got more options to eat it exactly there's just a lot more opportunity in general more stuff yeah Brands deals are bigger as well ex yeah so we kind of gave ourselves um we wanted to be fully out of 9 to-5
work by the end of this year yeah um I know that if we keep up the momentum of what's going on now it's very possible when you go to Brisbane what's the goal to go there set up a life and do um to to get jobs and fund this or just to fund this um so we will be getting jobs but um most probably part-time so that we can spend a bit more time focusing on the content um because that is the end goal to get us out of the 905s really have you thought about like just going into freelancing and what you do definitely we're actually talking about that today actually cuz we both have a lot of skills that can be utilized um
pretty easily like um pretty much everything in this office we have done at least once during our learning and trial and era of everything so um yeah maybe just being contractors freelancing for a bit maybe what is your day job because I was talking to your partner yeah but what was is yours the same or different um so I also work in Tech um for a software company not far from here um yeah been there for about I think a year in a couple of months okay yeah yeah and what's the day-to-day work for you like what's the skill set um So currently in what it is yeah the role is integration analyst so um are you familiar with EDI uh explain it out to
me I probably um electronic data interchange so if you have a candle store and you want to sell your products on Amazon um I'll integrate the two stores together using EDI so so much and then talking to your partner you guys have got so much to offer though contractual freelance World definitely um there's heaps of that yeah there's heaps of work there and pays well freelancing yeah absolutely seen $150 to $200 an hour for easy work yeah you know like let alone you could get more for Consulting level stuff for techical you could probably get 150 hour no worries but for at a consultant level you might not be the full experted consultant but like enough for most small businesses to do what they do
and I think like um when we would start that we would start with the smaller businesses cuz we' be learning at the same time as then I mean we'd already have our existing skill set but um Contracting ourselves out for the first time would start small and then obviously but you'd start small just from a part-time perspective because if you go let's say you took on like a warse I mean that's a example but let's say took on a war okay now you're not working part time now you can't make your food content so you do small businesses so you could still do exactly both right yeah okay that's pretty cool I like that so that's like just taking action mhm so when did you
resign um recently last week oh yeah so real fresh yeah we kind of impulsively impulsively made the decision but it's a it's something we've had on the back burner for years um I think at the beginning of last year year we planned to move but then um um some filming came up for my partner and that lasted 8 to n months so we were still in New Zealand and thought we may as well just finish out the year yeah um and then my partner picked me up from work last week and I was like let's just commit let's just do it um we were already planning on going to Brisbane at the end of April um for my partner's boxing fight so we just decided
we'll just keep those tickets as our moving overdate that is so good yeah and that's the that's the joy of not having kids yet we can make decisions like that just like that and we're gone I love that it's um it's exactly how we did it yeah so I was 31 when we made the decision to move back here MH and then we moved back when I was once we had both turned 32 so it was January of 2019 and I was yeah so I was 31 MH and then a month later I turned 32 but we' made the decision it was just like a snap decision yeah oh there's a there's some Catalyst to which I won't get but there was a snap decision
and then um we we we only waited till October to move to newand because of um money yep because we had a bunch of bonuses that were getting paid out it was like 40 Grand or something it's like walk away when we can just like well let's just planted that date that makes sense but it was like this ability just to go do it and what I love about hearing you guys do that is that like my my biggest advice is if you're going to when go back oh well go to Brisbane is like keep the ball and chain away MH so like jobs are just balls and chain like how long can you go without one mhm till you need it cuz you guys
are Hustlers by the sound of it like I mean always hungry is on your shirt so you will go get the work you need to to live absolutely but also what if you just don't give yourself the thing like burn the boats you know the same burn the boats just burn the boats and just like don't do that's what we did y literally like we moved here in 2019 October and by 2020 April no May 11th I remember the day yeah we signed out first client for this wow so it took us about six months but I just went all in I had nothing I didn't even know what I was going to do I had no skill set I was a GM for hotels
oh W like I didn't know you know like yeah I can't go and buy a hotel to start that business cuz I have a spare 40 million so you know just has that a you know so I had to figure out a service and I like I was saying to you partner outside I um I built my started building my brand on LinkedIn MH personal branding networking and then when lockdown H everyone was like oh I want to buy this thing off you I want you to help us do what you're doing and then this place but like because we went all in and we burnt the boats like the speed at which this has grown has just gone exponential Y and so we wrote
a um a 5ye plan which would be October this year to have there's a bunch of stuff on them um every single one of them we achieved earlier than what we had written even to New York so our 5-year goal in October 20 24 was to move to New York M and the guys just paid for our visas today wow right we went last year for 10 weeks y to do a pre like a feasibility study to see can we do this yeah it was super successful we got a clients over there it was really good we hired staff over there one of our staffs actually we just sent out two I my two see over there the second a charge here so like we
were able to achieve those like like when we wrote down move to New York in 2024 we're like there's no way this is happening but let's dream big let's shoot for the moon y y absolutely and we went there last October so we we technically went there a year early and we're going to get back even like fulltime before that yeah I guess I bring out the story cuz like you guys look like that couple yeah absolutely that sounds very similar it's so good how we would do things yeah and so just like don't think of brisan like which you're not and I know I'm preaching the converted here but probably more for people watching just like don't rest on Brisbane absolutely you know there's
the country Australia in itself has so much to offer definitely Sydney Melbourne stupid amounts to offer yeah and then then what's next like you know like um like southeast Asia I traveled southeast Asia for maybe just under four months wow that's cool straight where did you go where did you go specifically a I mean I I say southeast Asia I went all over East as well I went um so I started in Singapore Thailand um Lao uh Cambodia Vietnam Hong Kong China South Korea um Malaysia yeah damn um Indonesia samatra I went to nice and then I flew from oh no then then went to Malaysia sorry and then from Malaysia I flew to London mhm and then I spent a year in London then
I did Europe and then I came back wow but that four months around Asia that cost me I spent on average there was two of us at the time who did it this is I was a lot younger than different different partner um but we spent on average $60 a day [ __ ] yeah amazing I reckon you could still do it today easily under 100 a day easily yeah yeah I'll plan as Thailand MH the whole of Southeast Asia yeah Thailand La La's cheaper Cambodia is cheaper Vietnam's cheaper okay Thailand's big now everyone goes to Thailand yeah that's true they're nowhere Thailand's nowhere near as cheap as the other three um somatra and Indonesia like okay so when you when you travel Asia the entire time
you travel Asia you're trying to not get robbed you're trying not to get scammed I've been Thailand so I'm familiar okay so you try not to get scammed you try not to get robbed right everyone who's nice to you is trying to take money out of your back pocket right everyone so Indonesia was one of the last stops and I get off out of this taxi and anyway I get into this Village that I was staying at everyone is trying to be nice to me I was like go away I was dragging m i no bro fine like you know i' just been through AG done all get away from me I don't need your help I don't want to give you money I'm tight
budget and I get and then I was at the guest house and the guest house keep going oh do you want some dinner blah blah I said no you don't got food it's fine yeah and on the second night they asked me four times for food and and and the owner came out and he goes can I speak to you for a second like that's bit weird he like why are you being so disp disrespectful for us like we're trying to give you some food and you just keep saying no I like oh I don't need to I can buy money he's like I didn't ask you to pay me this is like stop like it's a gift he's like we're trying to help you
you're in our house you're our guest take what we give you and then I like I finally open the whole town no one was trying to SC you no one was trying to steal from you everyone was just trying to give they were just so grateful to have you and see you and man I felt like such a dick no because like in these big CI in Bangkok or shangai or something like these big cities are normal big cities everyone's trying to get something everyone's trying to get paid and cuz there's so many people you're like kind of in confined spaces all the time people everywhere so yeah I get and as a foreigner if you look like a foreigner especially I can see how
you'd be probably targeted a bit more yeah to be honest um theth more south you go the less you look like a foreigner so I think I went to puket would have been I mean country wise sorry not Thailand Thailand like so like oh but actually even in even down there they like so my cousin David who works for us looks like this guy um just older version of you bro um so he's full cook Island and so I mean when he was in Thailand and uh copy Yang we were in yep they all just thought he was local they just thought they just thought he was a tall guy and then when he was in Malaysia same thing in qual lumo okay they were
just like they all just start speaking to him in the local language which was CR funny I mean they obviously didn't think that about me I'm white when it comes to being an Islander but like um so that's kind of funny and actually my two two of my best mates Martha and Sarah they're M yeah and they all the same yeah they all the same yeah they look just like you oh really yeah 100% And they all just thought they all just talked to them oh that's crazy they were locals the only way they really know is the way you dress yeah soon as you start dressing like a local cuz you're backpacking cuz you start wearing all the local clothes cuz it's it's cooler
it's yeah definely you can't wear Calvin jeans like it's no yeah Sor okay I freaking love this I did not know the story was going to go here and I'm so [ __ ] happy about this I was so Keen to talk to you about your food channel and now I hear what you're about to do I'm like [ __ ] pumped yeah I'm so [ __ ] pumped put that clip that out bro I've never been this pumped in a thing cuz all I can see is me six 5 years ago this is what I this is exactly where I was 5 years ago amazing going I'm going to go run this content thing up as much as I can I know it's going to play out for me I
know if I just put out more content I'm going to make it absolutely and then two because of that I can chase this ambition I've got or whatever it is that I want to do you guys are just going to do it by travel and eating yep which when CLA watches this my wife she's GNA be like why didn't we do that why don't we do still can still can you know what I mean when we went to New York um I don't know if you watched any of my content but I did this like breakdown of all our cost there so we spent a bit over 100 Grand in 10 weeks in New York it was a different thing and it's New York yeah
that's one of the most expensive States isn't it it was $4,000 just for accommodation for 10 weeks that's expensive oh where are you staying oh Airbnb like really in a in a in a [ __ ] basement is that like a standard price there oh you can get it cheaper but like for what you wanted oh look we had Joanie and our team come with us okay and I couldn't put Joanie in a [ __ ] box yeah she's she was it was a work trip for her yeah so and her husband was coming to join us as well and so there was a certain standard I had to get and we had to also be in a position where we weren't like we had to be in a
location where we weren't like we couldn't be in dangerous area yeah fair enough we couldn't be too we had to be on Manhattan because what we're there for yeah you're just paying for that peace of mind I guess yeah but like it wouldn't have been much cheaper yeah and that's crazy that's crazy 40 Grand just on accommodation alone so how much roughly would you say you spent on that whole trip just roughly no I was saying about 100 and 100 to 120 depends on how you count it wow it's it's couldn't be me your fing or your toes bro it's crazy man look we we're a business yeah there's 28 people on my team it's a business trip so it's a bit different it's different
yeah it's different um you know we're not two people trying to pay off our personal incomes yeah we are a business of almost 30 people amazing paying for it right it's a different story y very different we're also four and a bit years into the journey where you guys are at day one yeah right so in four and a half years you might be able to go do New York absolutely right but day one you're not going to do New York cuz otherwise you're stupid going to do it you're going to go to Thailand that's on the list kind of like down here because what you do for Content you want to be able to go to New York and have them pay like cover
everything yeah I mean ideally all the travel would be paid for yeah yeah um which then takes me to this next stage now that I know this is the goal which is by the way if I haven't already said it enough I'm [ __ ] stoked about I'm so happy about no like this gonna sound real weird and I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but I'm so stoked that two brown people are doing this there's not enough of it out there I agree you I agree especially at your age too yeah I man [ __ ] are you kidding me I'm so pumped right now um I've never been this excited in the podcast um I'm so glad you're here too cuz I'm like I'm real
pumped to see both of you so excited for this okay anyway so now that I know this is it m how do you get this like how do you build a brand that travel will be paid for um so I feel like the style of content that I do can kind of be replicated wherever we go so um with sore specifically we kind of chose to film in locations that looked like it was in sore so uh the first one we did I think was uh LOM Manu Beach we filmed it uh with the whole Beach behind me we were like eating in a shack uh sea eating Seafood in The Shack on the beach like kind of just showcasing where we are exactly so
um I feel like just kind of including um bits of where we are and just doing local food that would be another huge thing that I would do so um with the YouTube channels that we watch he that we watch the most sunny he goes he doesn't do the typical Street vendors which he does do but he also goes in like into the villages and tries the actual local local food so that's kind of where I would want to go as well do the street food the the normal restaurants and everything but I would want to also do as local as possible um to get the best experience from those countries how do you get that to the point where like your airline tickets are
getting paid for we have something in the works for that but I won't talk about that just yet but um come May that should be a bit more obvious with where we're trying to go with that idea that is something in the world without giving too much way it's like from a Content style or a contract like a opportunity to begin with yeah um cool and then whatever happens down the track happens but there is a goal specifically perfect so you've got like a way of like expanding so that the deals that are coming in aren't just like from a local food restaurant absolutely they're actually coming in from everyone who can have support the whole ecosystem of Trel yeah absolutely so we've kind of
we've got everything down to a te so how we would approach accommodation how we would approach the food um the yeah the travel everything cool how do you plan on getting those deals like what's the BD Business Development I mean of course it would just be building my brand yeah yeah building my brand building my both my platforms um which would hopefully by then also be YouTube um I think that would speak a lot for me rather than me having to explain um just building up my own brand to the point where I can just say this is what I do um here's my analytics this is what I can bring in is this something you'd be interested in doing um what when do you
think that is what sorry let me say phrase it again at which point do you think that is for you like what is that number in your head is there a number what is that for you when you say my brain can speak for itself well I mean I'm already getting um paid campaign and everything like I think there's been a couple of week or month now so it's already on the track to um get us to that point so I think just continuing what we're doing just promoting my Brands as much as possible um yeah that'll get us to that point have you um are you working are you doing it all yourselves are you working with some management to help you do it
no absolutely not this is the management right yeah good and so you don't need to if there's anything that we don't know like I said before which is YouTube yoube it uh there's a couple of other um influencer friends that I have if there's any questions that I have I'll just ask how they would deal with the situation but no it's all just on this couch how are you um like when you are getting those couple of deals that come through are they for are they product people putting product into stuff like what what are the deals that are currently coming through um so at the moment it's just collaborating with other food brands the food brands cool so um there have been some other
things for non food related stuff but um it's all predominantly just food brands food brands wanting you to have um go eat their stuff yes so to essentially paying for the food they come in and are they paying as well for you at this stage absolutely cool good love it love it and how do you how do you like how do you price for that that is a tricky thing so we kind of did our own research there are some creators on Tik Tok that will kind of talk about their fees what they would pay some agencies also make the same kind of Tik toks but um obviously it's not something that everyone's just willing to talk about so with our own research and um
just taking into account the time that we spend postm pre-production yeah um yeah just kind of guessing really and just hoping that I'm not undercutting myself really are you able to talk about any of it or where it currently sits um like the higher end of where it is like how much those rate cards are like what you charge for are you public this stage because it would be different depending on the campaign what about like let's what about would you be confident talking about like where you want it to be where I want it to be in the next little bit cuz obviously it's going to keep climbing yeah absolutely so I can say to the point where like at the moment already one
campaign would be paying our rent and utilities yep I would like it to cover like a full just everything really and profit on top obviously so um it's doing it's doing good at the moment does it pay like one campaign are we talking like for a week a month um it depends so at the moment I'm working on a Fanta campaign that is that's the longest one that I've been on at the moment um but all the rest would be um just a once off campaign but there's been a couple where it's a repeated every time they have another promotion or something they'll CH to do another video so that's been Domino's and Burger King cool um Domino's do heaps of it at the moment
eh a lot yeah a lot yep Wendy's as well yep yep Wendy's yep y all the food places yep yep um tell me um about always hungry MH how has that changed since it's gone has it added more sales does that look like what can you tell me about that from a financial standpoint cool so um adding the tables on the website was probably one of the best decisions that we've made um I think it's just one of those products that you don't think that you need until you use it and you're like why have I not had this yeah it's just such a a strange object to keep in your car but yeah like I said once you use it you're like damn this
is actually really handy so good yeah so like I work remotely as well so you can use it for your laptop you can use it for your food so just having that product on the website alone has changed a lot for for the brand um there's still some because I don't know if I said this previously but always hungry started as just only clothing yeah um and it still is there's a lot of clothing on the website but the tables have just taken its own turn yeah yeah what can you say like how much can you tell us like volume of sales there um probably not exactly but I've had to order stock I think five times I've had to reorder stock five separate times
maybe each time I'd be ordering maybe 30 tables each time roughly yeah cool so like 100 150 something like that something like that that's awesome yeah and how long have they been up um not long to be honest so uh this content thing's been going on for nearly a year tables would be five months maybe yeah so that's like one a day yeah pretty much yeah that's awesome something like that that's awesome when do you see them come through in sales as a spike because of a video or does just sort of drip in it's more like a passive income it just kind of accumulates in the background yeah yeah so it just kind of happens randomly from people watching so I don't post or
promote about the products directly um all the promotion is just me wearing it or using it in the videos and then people just go and look in your link and then buy it yeah cool love that um do you track I mean you must do this is your job so do you track traffic that's going to the website compared to sales definitely what's that conversion rate look like from like people who go to the website to buy I couldn't tell you now you have a rough idea of like percentage wise or something like that percentage wise no but the when did I check that last I'm trying to remember the figure I did look at this recently um but I do know that majority of
the traffic if not all is coming from Tik Tok obviously having the linoln bio that does that does wonders but um yeah no sorry I couldn't give you a fig off the top of my head just I find it real interesting CU like I think you know when we we we'll clip something and I'm going to get you to find out that percentage and do it cuz it's like it's nothing much right like it's a cool thing to put in there yeah definitely people like going because like it's such a confusing thing to understand how many people actually buy yeah what would be really cool and like I guarantee if you did the math here you might even want to share that some other time
but like the amount of people who watched the videos in a month versus how many people went through to the website to how many people bought and I think it's really uh eye opening for people to realize what percentage of purchases versus views yeah absolutely because it's tiny it's almost like infas like tiny right 0 1% probably something like that yeah which means that your approach to just going well I just do more and build a bigger brand yeah will like that even if it's 0.1% if it's 0.1% of 100 million yeah then that's lot absolutely yeah absolutely yeah you know what I mean definitely but a lot of people don't think that like I'll get lots of people who think oh you know maybe
I convert like 10% if you can convert 10% then I'd be a billionaire you wouldn't have to work I'd be so rich yeah absolutely yeah and 1% is mental yeah like 1% is almost impossible to do yeah actually almost impossible to do it's it's a point of a percent yeah Jake Paul's probably getting a much higher percent loyal but he he would beting um when you look at it views versus conversions it would be still a percentage of a percent even for Logan paol yeah but I think it's a real like good thing to highlight for people watching because they'll be like Oh I'm going to start a clothing line and make all this money get all these views and it's like but you need
to be getting 100 million views a month to be making enough money to sustain your life otherwise you guys would just be going traveling now absolutely yeah and you've got such a good product actually you got a product you can drop ship yeah like that's how good your product is so easy to to just set up and never have a touch are you currently manually handling everything yeah cuz your volume's not high enough to get into 3pl yet yeah um I I could if I wanted to but um when I started doing always hungry we purchased all of the um branding machines ourselves so I've got the vinyl cutter the heat press like everything at home so because we started doing it that way with
clothing we just kept it that way for the table as everything's done in house okay cool makes sense makes a bit easier too cuz you've already got the Machinery so that's The Upfront cost yeah the per unit cost is nothing after that yeah cuz I'm working full-time but um it's what I enjoy doing anyways so just in the afternoons that's usually when I'll do all the orders but yeah everything's done in house I just find it better that way especially because we're not so big to the point where I have to look into that I like the fact that I can see the orders come in and process them myself um because I can kind of track where everything is going um but yeah when
we do need to eventually I'll definitely look into 3 or something cool yeah I mean long term I mean once you're traveling you'd have to right because defitely which is something we've already been discussing looking at doing Drop Shipping yeah yeah even just for the move to Australia cuz we'll be buying the machines to continue it in Australia but ideally the goal would be to not have to do it or build it up to a point in Australia that you just hire a small team or that just one person definitely one person could probably handle your volume yeah and if it gets too big for them then you just I mean it's good you just hire more people I who alone could um but because
we had to work this whole time that wasn't really an option but because um of where everything's going that's definitely something that would be able to do yeah like I I would imagine that you just um run it yourselves until you're doing so much traveling that it doesn't make sense CU that's now your child yeah defitely to get rid of your child get a babysitter take care of your child abely can off you know what I mean and have someone else take care of it all now that's cool I love that um okay tell me about this transition to YouTube how does that happen what are you going to do what changes do you start speaking um so initially we would start with what you
said earlier shorts I'd probably just upload everything that I already have existing on my platforms upload that to shorts um until we get to a point where we're comfortable with everything is at LifeWise because YouTube is a lot different I think it involves a lot more work especially just post production yeah um post production alone so um that's definitely something that I'd like to get up and running in the next couple of months I couldn't say when exactly CU obviously the move to Brisbane is going to take up a lot of our time um but even that's something that we're looking at documenting cool um so yeah definitely in the next couple of months or so I'd like to get that back up and run
yeah and what do you see the long form content becoming like what does it look like is it you know you spoke about your short form video content being I just get bored so I skip to the food bit like what then is the YouTube so I would from a long form perspective funny that I would have it um talking talking videos but I would keep YouTube as the talking long form but still be consistently posting the quick yeah fastpaced videos to Tik Tok and are they kind of like a this is the short version if you want to watch the long version go watch The Full Experience got it um are you like when it comes to eating like is it just about the
experience of the taste of the food and everything like that or is there more to what you want to do with the food content um so definitely are your speed or volume eer or anything like that back in my YouTube days I tried to do the whole food challenge thing and um just not that much of a huge eater so there's just a lot of waste so maybe not a challenge person um but yeah probably just trying local food um but there's also the standpoint I want to showcase is um trying these things as a MDI so the things that I want to try are things that we most likely probably wouldn't go to so like maybe L but I'll go into a village and
try their food and it would be multifood Bay tries L love yeah something along those lines yeah that's the angle you're taking definitely um and would that then be like review or more Vlog um maybe a bit of both but just keeping the focus on the food um but as we travel it would obviously showcase a little bit more of the country um but still keeping food as the main focus yeah yeah yeah okay cool that's hard hey that's hard I can tell why you're taking it slowly yeah definitely YouTube's hard yeah it's a completely different Bas day yeah yeah especially long form like we watch a lot of there's a channel we watch car and Nate yes you seen them I love them yeah
same mhm but you notice if you watch a lot of them they don't make content they don't have much content from Nighttime yeah cuz she edits at night yes cuz that's all she does look their company's grown to a point where they've got other people to help them but she still does her creative control I mean she likes it so her creative control same for us yeah and that takes a lot because then I it's like well like that's a lifestyle mhm like that's a tough lifestyle and like we enjoy post production um like with my own video I can maybe film edit and upload a video maybe within like an hour maybe something that I enjoy doing but Tik Tok is 30 seconds compared
to YouTube 3 to 10 minutes however long um yeah yeah nice um what's the big big goals like what's the longterm that you would be going you know what this is it um to a point where we are just um fully self-employed I guess uh where uh bills are being paid just purely from the content that we're making um and just being able to live the lifestyle that we want um and not have to sacrifice anything I guess like having a $100,000 trip to New York yeah like obviously yours was for business which yeah that's anyways that figure is just yeah hey it still hurts that's it still hurts it still hurts so much yeah getting us to a point where we could do that
and it not be um can we eat tomorrow if we do this trip um and it's not at that point at the moment but we would just like that to be like the furtherest reality away from what we would currently do you think being like small solo like I'm going to say solopreneurs even though there two of you but like a small solo team is more your style or building a big like business around like car and you have like I think a team of 15 or something now yeah behind them right like is it like they're having a business like fear drop like they have behind them or is it we just want to be two people doing our thing and making money that
way like is any of them more appealing than the other yeah definitely um having help in the future for sure because we do enjoy all the things that we do to do with all the content creation but if we could possibly give someone else the opportunity to edit our videos like I would love that so that we could do something else that we enjoy instead yeah so um yeah we would do it just us two for as long as we need to and then when we needed help I'm sure just like you we would start looking into help yeah um but yeah for now and for a little while longer it would just be a Twan team do you see it being like like when
I ask this question I'm going to ask it a different way because it's like a real fundamental question right okay of like people can either be very successful solo people is a system to build a solo career versus a system to build uh a business career and they're really different I can never build this with a small team it always the team has to consistently grow yeah and grow really big if we keep doing the way we're going like we're going to be 100 people by the end of the year right we're going massive right it just keeps growing we tripled in size in a year like we and that's kind of going to continue to happen absolutely yeah so that's a real mindset shift
like you got this Beast of an engine room the thing is the the thing that people don't realize there is that actually what ends up happening is you have so much people so many people helping you you get so much more time back you start buying time that's the goal that is the goal okay rather than being like two people with a little small team M you wouldn't be scared of building a huge team if it meant it gave you Freedom absolutely yeah cool I love it cuz that's a whole conversation right a whole different conversation bance Our Lives we don't want time so we claiming our time back yeah pretty much 100% what you're we're kind ofing we don't know whether to go business
or us so I I'll I'll give you that's good I like that I'm the same I grew up like I grew up manad like I grow up real poor like super poor I know story um and the the the the choice that has to be made is do I think I can be so famous that I can make millions of dollars or whatever that number is doing just because I'm I'm prison mhm right which is like you know the rock can turn up put a tequila on the shelf and make a billion dollars yeah exactly here the rock um or can I build an engine that uh can have a team of people behind it that can do that right can do the same thing
and they're very different propositions because if this is the one the brand the The Rock Way mhm well you need to just like double down on making the big content M as opposed to the most content it's the best content right and that's going to come from like traditional media still has a big part to play because of the distribution so like imagine you get a show on the Food Network you know like like so many of us know who like Anthony bordz or like all you know all these like big shot like um Jamie Oliver or nigala or whatever because they were on these networks that had great distribution yeah so then the fame that Fame way of being super well known is a
very different way you would be going to the place likes of LA and stuff to try talk to producers to take your thing to go put me on a show that show blows you up further put me in another show and then you build this brand so big that when you put a book out a million people buy it yeah so that's a whole different conversation to going how do we build this business like always hungry how do we blow up this brand which might need a 100 people working for it at some stage right they're very different conversations M because you don't need to be on a TV network to build a business yeah right but to be famous you need to do something
Y and usually like a lot of the real famous people they either um you know just like they act they play sport they make music or they're on some form of a reality TV show that's really good y y and I just think that they're like it's a good distinction to make early because they have very different career paths in my opinion definitely yeah usually the more ambitious people are the less they want to be the solo person usually the more ambitious you are the more likely you want to be surrounded by lots of other cool people doing cool [ __ ] yeah absolutely and you and when you're a solo you're an artist more than you are anything else like sports stars musicians like comedians they're
artists almost in the field they're so talented this thing they're specialized they specialize in this one thing and people can't be around them very very often because they don't understand them mhm cuz it's like you know if you're Taylor Swift how many people understand you yeah how many people no one like her hard day and a normal person's hard day would be there's no way that's why like in the billionaires world and billionaires World which is similar but they made their money however but the concept Rings true where they have a circuit that they that they all do every year in terms of their holidays and vacation because they can only hang out for other billionaires cuz no one else understands them they all go
to the Monaco GP gr Prix you know they all go to take these places to ski they all go to the Super Bowl you know they all do the circuit together yeah MH because they people can't relate to them yeah and so these artists are like that like the rock like some of us might look at the Rock and be like oh yeah like this dude he one of the brothers yeah we don't I can't get along for rock It's The Rock talk about I have no clue what yeah like what am I going to talk to this guy about right yeah and so that's like for some people who are real ambitious they're ambitious in a different way artists are ambitious different to entrepreneurial
people MH you guys just seem very entrepreneurial which is making you thinking that that's a better lean for you yeah definitely the point that you brought up which is like you want time MH it is this false economy that people have that they think the bigger the business gets the less time they'll have it's just the opposite no yeah definitely this year I've got so much more time my my week is 40 hours of my week's blocked as it should be it should be yeah but like soon as this finishes I don't have to do any work cuz Shai's done all my work my EA's done it all hire e that's the point you want to be able to get yeah that's it and like
as we we got a strategist role going in the business at the moment which is going to pull me out of the strategy part of the business which is probably 15 hours of my week that's the goal yeah that's what you want to do that's what the business side will do yeah so as the the bigger you build the business the first few years is hard like I did everything I did 120 hours every week but I was I was in my 30s yeah K yeah what else was I going to do got no kids watch YouTube I was going to watch beard Meats food eat [ __ ] [ __ ] real fast on YouTube see how many Philly cheese steaks you could eat in 10 minutes that's
what I was going to do right yeah and like you think about it like people like yeah but I want a balance lifestyle it's like yeah I get that but it's like the old entrepreneur saying when you take the entrepreneur life of like I'm going to do the things today that no one else will so I can do the things no one else can't in the future that's the point absolutely cuz you know when you're 40 you know you when you're 40 you're real young mhm like real young like so [ __ ] young so young you're now you realize how young you are cuz when you're 20 how old are you yeah yeah 23 and you and so that's a baby he looks at us going
oh you guys are old SPS old but with more money eh and then when you're 40 you're still the same you think exactly the same way I'm 37 so I'm not far off you don't see I don't feel I'm any different to when I was 32 when I started this and I feel the only thing I feel different from when I was 23 is that one I'm not as much of a dumbass and two I got way more money yeah same right and so when you're 40 it's just the same you're more mature with more money and more clarity of where you're going yeah so definitely that's something I look forward to yeah so like to your point like I want to make sure we
got the right balance like well if you work like my thing was if I work real hard in my 30s in my 40s I will build the system around me so I can CH pick and choose I mean I'm almost there now like Claire and I were talking about like should we go to barley in April yeah why not yeah that's the goal you just just go for a week and I'll just work from there for a week and we're looking at we probably we might still actually do it we're just trying to decide on where we go and there's some things I got to be here for so I got to balance the time but like that is balancing I do all of this
until I can do all of that absolutely balance isn't I'm going to do half of this and half of that it's like I'm going to do all of this for now take care of that system and then I can do all of this and then do whatever I [ __ ] want yeah absolutely that's kind of where like I can see it and you guys like you remind me so much of like us when we were your age amazing so I would like to spend $100,000 in New York you know what just by saying that and making it real you will yeah absolutely yeah just will absolutely um you know so I have lots of money go through my account now Lots Millions go from our account
every year now um but that money isn't my wealth is not tangible MH so my wealth is this business so this business is worth millions yep Millions so everything just goes straight back into the business yeah I pay myself 48,000 a year MH so not very much yeah my partner CLA my wife clear same so I just wanted to say that CU cash Rich no yeah wealthwise wealthy MH um cuz I me and CLA my wife own the business outright ourselves so first of all I just want to make sure that's clear I don't have lots of cash yep the business has cash I don't have lots of cashh but the feeling of like when I think about growing up poor to where we are
now the differen is is that when I was when you were poor you were always wishing for something MH I was always like man I wish I could get McDonald's you know man I wish I could get those new Nikes yeah and now I don't spend any time thinking about what I want I just love and then when I want something I get it y but I want less mhm okay I wear the same clothes every day is that because you already have what you would have wanted because I realize none of it matters right once I had the means to buy the thing I wanted and I bought stuff that I thought I wanted and I realiz is like you get it and you're
like is that it you wait and wish and you go man it would be so cool to have this thing and then you get it and you're like oh well nothing really changed about me e I'm still the same guy now I've just got this extra thing I've just got this thing I carry around yeah so actually like as I um because actually I probably had more cash when I was a GM of Hotel house right right cuz we're on good ceries six figure celeries Liv in a Melbourne like we're good good position mhm I have more way more wealth now yeah like I wasn't a millionaire even on paper back then but now on paper You could argue I'm a millionaire now I mean
my business is worth nothing unless we sell it at the end of the day right it's worth nothing unless someone's willing to pay for it but actually given the revenue we generate and stuff it it probably has a valuation in the millions yeah so I'm I'm stoked that I have that wealth that I know I don't have to worry but I also as I gained the wealth I realized I didn't even really want anything okay like I just don't like you'll see me like this this overshirt I've only got it on cuz I'm going out for dinner tonight and I needed something and I put it on for the whole day so don't but like I wear a white or a black T-shirt every day
M hey every day nonstop nonstop all he wears I wear the same denim I got three pairs of these pants I wear the same pants every day in the summer I've got Country Road shorts MH and I got five pairs of the same short different colors so I can swap them around that's so typical Mayon they have like the same item but like 10 of them My Gym gear I got the same black short the BL black Singler I got five of each I got um I got 14 pairs of black underwear seven pairs of gray underwear those are my gym underwear you got your system I got three pairs of the same tracksuit pen yeah I just got this capture wardrobe right so you
know like we'll go shopping and I'm like I'm not going to buy anything yeah I'm not going to buy anything I'm just here for lunch do you find that your you have more or less problems than when you did when you didn't have as much money I have different problems probably the same amount the problems I have now had bigger consequences right than when I was poor mhm when I had no money you know like when I say I had no money like yeah we grew up in mad like we grew up in do you know M yeah no so I grew up in um mford Street near JC James Cook like I was that part of mad Okay so not a good part of
M day either yeah like I wasn't a bad part um and so that was poor and then I mean the one one benefit I did have is I had a my parents were together and I and I give that a lot of credit because absolutely that's huge mhm um I realized in time now the reason me and my brothers are really good now is because we had parents who were together and we had dinner at The Family Table every night I realized that was my Foundation even though we were poor we had that so I'm privileged in that respect that that's not normal for a lot of people in man a lot of broken homes MH so I was privileged in that respect and in
our later years in teenage years my parents started to have a bit better financial position but then they also lost everything twice they went bankrupt and so that was the poor and then also um when I was when I moved to Australia and lived on my own I was also like at one stage were living out of a car like cuz we couldn't get an apartment and my my brother and my cousin lost their jobs and I had to support on my casual food and beverage attendant wage yeah so the problems I had then they weren't as impactful to others than what they were just impactful to me y right but I knew I could always eat yeah there's always places to go get food
M if you're hungry someone will feed you yeah there's heaps of places I know cuz I have a lot of friends who are Indian for instance that I could Rock up to one of their temples and they would feed me they're so hospitable they will feed you they will not let you go hungry there's food banks and I'm not proud Too Proud to go get free food absolutely I am not too proud um so I knew at Rock Bottom like the impact of my decisions and problems I have just meant like I get to eat a nice roast meal tonight or I have to have some slops that I got for free yeah M and I worked in hospitality and I stayed in Hospitality because
you got free food in hotel so I also ate heaps there y now my problems are if I don't do this deal I can't pay his salary right and now he can't eat yeah and so it's more impactful right mhm Elaine can't pay a mortgage you know Nate can't take his kids to school yeah so that's a different thing MH so now although I have more money and I have more wealth the problems I have impact more people that makes me not having money hurts a lot of people yeah that's the scary part okay okay that makes sense yeah so the problems are just bigger mhm and I would say that if you ignore those problems you'll probably fail real fast definitely like I use
them as fuel yeah you'd have to mhm like every like okay the guys get paid in two days on Thursday um because they get paid monthly right y so about this time every month I am sweating because I'm like man I'm about to like okay so um put into context uh the wage build that's month will be $120,000 um not including tax just just the what goes into their accounts y so on Thursday I'll have to spend 120 Grand M which is not lost on me how much money that is still blows my [ __ ] mind I'm giving people I'm putting out more money than I ever earned as a salary for myself in hotels the most I earned in one year was 120 and I'm
giving that as a monthly not including the tax the tax is another 40 Grand that comes out in the 20 in the month right yeah so I pick that 6 days ago and I got another 100 Grand 120 Grand so like that feeling of going how the [ __ ] am I going to get this money mhm that for me is fuel definitely like Fuel and I'm really good with Finance because of my hotel days I learned business really well that I have a forecast the guys will can see a cash flow forecast of going where are we going to be mhm and it obviously gets less accurate the further out you get but like I can tell you in April that we will finish the month
with 140k left in the bank nice and I'm pretty positive that will happen y nice as it gets further out that number gets less because you don't know how clients will come from and stuff we got a pretty decent forecast but not perfect yep so I guess what I'm going with that conversation is that like those problems are the same the same amount maybe M they're more impactful but now I use them for Drive mhm because when it's just you you're worrying about it's it's not as it's not as easy to get excited yeah it's not like it's like working out mhm like if we really thought that way we'd all have six-packs exactly we be ripped cuz we be like well this is for
me yeah we'd all be walking around ripped mhm but when it's for yourself it's way harder yeah but when you got a higher purpose and there's some more to it like these guys having a successful career and being able to feed their families and take care of their children and not stress that [ __ ] is a boss going to pay me this month like never have we had to to be late yeah amazing that is like the fuel that I use it for these days so makes sense it's scary though yeah scary that's cool that's a that's a that's a good stress to have yeah I would like those problems yeah I can tell he I can tell that you guys are going to be I
think you guys shouldn't be scared of growing a big business MH I think that if what you should be really adamant about is like because you haven't had careers where you've run big businesses you should be really uh mindful of learning what it is to run a big business MH and the core skill in my mind is leadership you should do as much leadership training and development as possible whatever you can okay even if the only possible chance you get is by volunteering M just do it okay go coach a small rugby team or something you know like be a manager for a sports team if that's all you can do from a leadership perspective if you can't lead you can't get people to follow
you yeah absolutely right so these guys like the sh I mean it's after hours now for these guys right and there's heaps of people out there but their thing is like no we're in a common cause here like we're trying to do some damage together yeah on Friday night like most of the team were here right most of the team were here to what 10:00 9:00 because we were like we had an event on and we're doing some cool [ __ ] and two of our staff was speaking at it yep nice so and like you do that by leadership that's the environment you want to have yeah culture is buil from leaders y absolutely 100% bro you I couldn't offer him another 30 grand to behave
better yeah absolutely exactly yeah so do training in that and coaching develop yourself don't assume you can just do it yeah I've had Hees of development leadership and coaching I was lucky in hotels I had good hotel group that I work for InterContinental Hotels group and they spent a lot of money on me and then I had two really good or three actually really good leaders who mentored the H out ofy nice and you need it and if you're going out on your own now bro like you need it yeah you need it you need it it's more important than understanding Finance cuz you can just pay an accountant to do your Finance yeah you can't pay an accountant to come and build culture in
your team yeah you know you know what I mean it comes from the top yeah you know like there's still lots of stuff in our team and culture that I get wrong all the time and I'm constantly having to beat myself up over and learn and develop you're learning at the same time right yeah of course I um I was lucky in that because I ran big hotels that I I got a lot of experience but you guys haven't had that yet are you working not yet it's a different world completely different whole different world so that that would be my advice as like um because I can see that you guys are like similar mindset to where we were at that at your age
I mean [ __ ] you're doing the exact thing we did just the other way around we came back to New Zealand you're going back to Australia um but just um if you're going to build a business don't underestimate the need for good leadership and also one other thing if like we probably should wrap up as 5:30 but like the other thing I'd kind of stress for you to do is to um use what money you have mhm to as fast as possible bring on support okay don't think you can do it on your own okay y you know what that makes sense don't want to do it on your own mhm the very first CL I signed on May 11th last on 2020 what I told
you I hired my dad the next day yep and the reason I hired my dad is cuz I could also fire him straight away if it all turned to [ __ ] right cuz he love you Dad I'm sorry he didn't even want to do it but I needed someone yeah so you guys might have Freelancers you guys might whatever the moment you can take your away um things outside your head and buy yourself time back the more you can grow it okay like imagine if you didn't have to do any editing straight away amazing right amazing yeah I know you want some creative control and there's some stuff there but like I can still edit this podcast through him yeah exactly yeah exactly which is leadership
y so I would like say to yourselves how fast can I get help mhm how much personal financial sacrifice do I have to make can I live with mhm to get that help and do it okay that first client I signed on every dollar went to my dad I got none of it well until I until I signed on another four and I got to five and then finally was some left over for me yeah yeah because I was just like you know what like I want 30 clients but I can't get to 30 clients if I'm doing all the stuff my dad's done can I quickly ask what was the help that your dad was giving you at the time was it the admin
stuff uh at the time it was the delivery of the thing I sold okay okay so initially the first few clients we bought on just wanted um on LinkedIn you can do what's called Outreach which is just connecting with people right and back then you could connect with uh 4 500 people a day uh yeah 400 people a day sh MH and so 40% of them would connect with you so 160 a day so over a week you know you 400 people connecting with you amazing and then so over course of of a month you're getting 1,600 new connections MH and these are people that have got money mhm and so you could do deals cuz just a small percentage of them would be like
oh I like what you do can you do it for me yep and so we did that for other people so in the finance industry we had clients who are mortgage brokers and we're doing this with them and then every month they might get 12 leads M they get two of them signed and they just made I don't know 15 20 grand Y and they pay me at the time they'll pay me like 1,500 bucks I was like [ __ ] off do that was straight to Dad straight to Dad yeah paying his salary mhm um and so he was doing all the connections for me okay right he was doing all this manual labor which he hated but it mean I could go sell more mhm
and then eventually we had enough clients that um I dad was like I don't want to do this anymore and I and I was introduced to a guy who had teams in the Philippines and then I I had six staff in the Philippines wow who were doing this for me amazing paying them $10 an hour compared to paying my dad 30 yeah um and so cost me buger R to do it yep and so and they were faster than my dad MH cuz he was old MH and these guys this is what they did they smashed through it yeah so I got more productive out of it so I made more money which then allowed me to start to hire people New Zealand so we
hired Alicia who works for me Creer we started boing the business out and then it just grew from there right and just kept on doing it so that's why I say like just if you get stuck in doing the thing that you're doing you won't do the thing that helps you grow okay does that make sense yep okay yeah okay all the things you need to do to do that you sell mhm which at the moment for you's a content creator yep but eventually it won't be you're not going to make all your money content creating yeah you're going to make all your money making always hungry a beast of a business or whatever the next thing is you know who knows yeah that like
how do you how do you just do more like what if you could put out more content more often how much faster would you grow what if you could find an editor who can edit better than you and instead of getting on average 50k views you're getting half a million views how much faster you grow now that's what I do right like we would grow I had a big LinkedIn audience then we bought on Joanie who knew Tik Tok better than I did well I didn't know it I mean six months later we're at 300,000 followers yeah and it's like oh okay so yeah just hire the people who know the thing you're good at content creation what have you had someone who's even better
yeah cuz to think you're the best is naive yeah definitely like that's just silly when who is the best y you're never the first and you're never the best exactly yeah so what if you could just hire these people to give and I like I guess there's cost involved and stuff like that but you know you can take chances on people who show promise yeah abs like Janie cost me her first starting salary was 60 Grand MH and she had 430,000 followers at the time on her personal account like that's what creators in New Zealand get paid cuz they can't earn much more yeah as you know oh she wasn't even a Creator she was working super dry right so she earns more than that
now obviously I mean she's going to go move to New York and stuff like that but like um she was on like 60k which is is just pretty normal like it's it's all fair pay 50 to 70 is probably Fair pay for that bracket y but she had 430,000 followers yeah you know like these guys who come in earning somewhere around that or a little bit less they come of zero followers yeah you know so so you can get you can pick up these people quite affordably okay to support you that makes sense anyway I'll leave it at that yep cool you got any more questions for me before we go you drill me go for it uh we're over time but who cares just
let it run yeah um no I think yeah that's really insightful you've dropped a lot of gems that I think was really helpful to our situation and the things that we want to do so yeah I really appreciate that um do you you have any other questions you can always ask me another time yeah got my details we're connected yep just send me an email anything anytime we don't sell knowledge in this business we sell execution yeah the knowledge is free my last piece of advice is MH don't listen to me oh great now you know why you know why cuz you cuz you need to make the mistakes yeah you need to [ __ ] up y you need to learn from them MH just remember
that you got here originally so whatever fuckups you have you'll get past them absolutely just keep mov on mhm look I'm going to give you advice but like I'm just this bull dude that you met one time you know like who am I really I don't know your situation I don't know the all the sacrifices that you've had to make I don't know anything about your family situation I don't know anything I'm taking face value from watching you eat food yeah I know right isn't that crazy it's crazy and it's the same for people watching like they can't listen to all this practically and just do it yeah but what I can say is like from the advice I given is like here are some
lessons I learned MH on a journey you guys are similar like you're on a similar Journey To Where I Was yeah I think there's some core truths in the fact that those two sides of like Talent artist Style versus business is probably there's some truth in that there's always exceptions to the rules but there's some truth in that there's some definite truth in leadership and its importance in business and life even just leading yourself better mhm the way you do it you'll have to figure out for yourself yeah absolutely you have to you know you have to grow your own way you guys are going to have your own growth and Dynamics between the two of you of how you guys grow as a couple
especially a couple's been together so long so young yeah you know how do you guys grow as a couple and evolve that relationship when now you've got this other thing absolutely you know I I think if anything couples who make content together Stay Together how many content creative couples are still together versus how many is split yeah cuz when they do split as [ __ ] and a pool all over the place you know what I mean exactly we've worked together we worked together at the same job for 5 years in Australia previously like we lived together we actually prefer to work together if we had a choice yeah um that's cool yeah makes everything a lot easier it's not normal so that's cool yeah didn't realize
so more sit but uh most couples are man we like we'll meet couples and they're like dying to get away from each other and we're like don't you want to hang out with your partner like what do you mean it's a funny thing like they're not in the wrong it's just that you guys are like me CLA and I this is why I think you guys like this why I love hearing the story cuz I didn't know obviously but CL and I are the same we hate not being together like we have so much more fun when we're together yeah like we do our own things like at the moment well she's probably back now oh no she's not but she's at a pilates class
at the moment she's doing that she plays golf do her thing I do my thing I work Lots she doesn't want to work as much as I do fair enough but like we hate not doing stuff together yeah like I got to go out to dinner tonight with a client Y and she hates going out for dinner with clients so she's like I'm not coming but you know she's like oh man like you know like she wants to so she's booked dinner for Thursday night with me yeah yeah cuz she's like oh well you get dinner tonight let's go dinner but we love hanging out amazing but then there's just the same with couples I me this guy he hates been away from his girlfriend
for a second heing her right now like come on can we finish this thing yeah coming soon bab but like then there's other couples who they need that time apart yeah because that person's they fulfill a different cut for them yeah absolutely anyway we're going into a relationship Vice now I'm going to cut it off this was awwesome H was for this thank you so much for coming on I appreciate it thank you for having me you're welcome
