76 min

show notes.

Fraser Grut began his journey to film 10,000 dreams over 7 years ago with the goal of proving a friend wrong by completing a daily video for a year.

What started as a selfish act to gain attention soon transformed Fraser as he discovered the power of helping others achieve and uncover their dreams.

In this episode, Fraser reflects on hitting the milestone of 2,000 dreams filmed while opening up about the mental health challenges that led him to quit the daily challenge for a year.

He discusses shifting his priorities to truly connecting with people and making their dreams a priority over his own ego.

Tune in to hear Fraser Grut's inspiring story of personal growth and helping others through his now 7-year mission to capture 10,000 dreams on video.

my whole life was about me and my dreams this just showed me that there is nothing more important in life than helping other people achieve their dreams and also helping other people discover their dreams it's totally just changed my life man welcome to the podcast what up so feel free to quickly introduce yourself whichever way you do yes uh my name is Fraser Gru and I am on a wild mission called 10,000 dreams where I am filming the dreams of 10,000 humans in my lifetime and I'm hitting 2,000 on Sunday oh that's crazy really that's a cool Milestone seven and a half years in man that's so cool flip yeah that is how how does that feel 2,000 is it is it I know it's

arbitrary in the scheme of the 10,000 but how does that feel Hood like that it doesn't feel big at all okay interes I'm like is it even it's not even that any dreams I think cuz I'm so in it it's only when I talk to other people and they're like what 2,000 people but I've got like years at least remaining man so yeah it's going to take a while it's going to take ages so tell me then like as we as I said off camera like yeah so your best mate Logan is the cousin of Connor who works for us who usually would be in this room with us the intern the intern love the other intern he would love you call him an inter

cuz he's definitely not but is he not an he's definitely hit of creative oh shoot I thought I saw in his email thing on the invite they said was that you Carter oh my gosh that's oh no Conor Conor is an nendo it's g p no no I'm going to stick to that he's so sorry Conor I love it that's so good clip that out put on Conor socials um that is brutal but yeah but the thing was is that you yeah look I don't want to give away the whole story but I heard a little bit but what I want to know is why so first of all tell me the actual transactional piece of how you got started but then I want to

go deep in there like why are you doing this Yeah man so look when I started this it was a bit with my mate Logan at a cafe in tarangi Oakland uh that I would do this every day for one year yeah which is 365 dreams and look there was no why behind it there was no life purpose literally I wanted to prove Logan wrong love and I was hoping this would go viral after two weeks y so it was like it was all like selfish the whole thing Y and probably about 200 and something dreams and I remember I was trying to get just Cinder dream yeah and her team came back to me saying ah sorry man no we can't make this happen

and then I went back to them saying well actually I'm now doing it for 10,000 days and I just kind of said that to see what their response would be I was like just shoot my shot let's just make it 10 times bigger and then they came back and went okay yeah we'll do this and I was like sweet and then I went on Instagram and changed the name to 10,000 dreams I love that and I committed to every day for 10,000 days which I thought was like four or five years and then I realized it was 27 and a half years and I didn't tell anyone in my life and I had a wife at the time and she was like what are you

serious and I was in and was so crazy honestly man why do I do this like my I think my heart has changed doing this I was very selfish before I started this my whole life was about me and my dreams and this just showed me that there is nothing more important in life than helping other people yeah achieve their dreams and also helping other people discover their dreams and it's totally just changed my life man I've done it for seven and a half years I I never saw this coming this was not the game plan at all I want to I want to cycle back a bit because I actually thought this might be the case that the why wasn't so deep oh no

but it is a little bit if you just frame it a different way it's not deep in that it wasn't so altruistic when you started and it's grown into that which is cool and you can see it like it permeates through your content now but like I what I like about that story that it was for you and your selfish is actually a really interesting point for a lot of young creators M because like often they don't want to make content for themselves or content for their own reason whatever right so they just don't then know what to do but you were so like I don't know stron headed whatever you want to call it but just so determined to prove your mate wrong so

arrogant so arrogant you said it um that it got you to that point which is a interesting character trait so like what was it about you back then like that I mean that was what s years ago was 2016 to 7th the year how old were you then 22 22 I'm turning 30 on Sunday yeah so my entire 20s has been filming dreams basically every day what what what what do you think at that time made you made you make that bit bro I'm I'm still wired this way if you I the only way I get motivated about something is if it feels impossible I love it so you have to give me the most craziest goal to get me out of bed if life's

too easy or safe I just get bored and I don't even so if you go Fraser you have to film Obama in 4 days yeah I'll get to Obama I will I will make it I will fly somewhere I will do whatever and I think the fact that it was like okay what is it like maybe half an hour each day dreams I like dreams I've always been a dreamer it just felt like you know I can do it and honestly one year just felt too easy yeah and when I was coming to the end of that I was like so what you do a year it's kind of like okay good stuff man I think that's why the 10,000 just captivated me man it

was just outrageous it's so outrageous it's so outrageous so outrageous it's the same thing like I told you off camera about our 10 billion followers yeah bro so when we set as a team we tried to come with was the number we realized that followers was the metric that we wanted to track as a tangible thing for goal and we look we someone said a billion and we sat there and actually Connor the turn said to me we did the math and like do we think we could be a thousand people strong this team and we're like yep and I was like do we think we could like we've built other profiles up real fast can we have each of them have a million followers

each and we're like yeah I mean yeah I mean we know what we're doing so okay well that's a billion okay so that's too easy yeah let's put us make it 10 billion and everyone's like and then everyone in the room sort of like and I was like okay we got it like this is the one we're all petrified to try go for 10 Yes Man and then it changes like the way you think of things right it's like for you to do 10,000 you have to fundamentally rethink this not to do it daily right like doing it daily for a year is totally different to doing 10,000 absolutely and man I uh I filmed the dream of an astronaut Chris Hadfield in like 2019

and he talked about this in his dream he said that he is a moonshot dream and he is a dream his moonshot dream was to walk on the moon and he said it probably was impossible but because it was so high he basically had to rewire his entire life to get to this impossible goal and in doing so he ended up going into space he never walked on the moon but he's an astronaut because his goal was so insane whereas if his goal was just to work at Nessa he he wouldn't have done all the things he would have needed to have done to achieve that crazy thing I love it so dude my um shoot for the stars Moon shop bro this has been

my wallpaper for ages I don't even know if you can see it yeah I love that I want was your dream to be on the cover of Time Magazine and that every day I wake up and I see that I'm like well that's what I'm aiming for man yeah yeah I love that that see that's see that's the why this is it yeah it's like all the other stuff that it's turned into and what you've learned from this experience is one thing and you shouldn't take that away because it's true the same thing that we have but like the Y is like this crazy ambition to do crazy stuff yeah that's cool you know but like I I like the reason I like to bring

it up is like you see a lot of kids who don't really know how to answer that yeah man you know because they're just like oh I'm trying to do what's right for what other people want or trying to do what I'm appear and say or I'm trying to get food on the table or whatever yeah but You' have gone but you actually got crazy dreams like shooting for them absolutely man and I've learned that everyone has crazy dreams they're just too scared to share them out loud yeah but everyone deep down has a crazy dream man and the crazier it is the better yeah absolutely absolutely bro what's your crazy dream it's bro see I can't have an answer right now as you I

don't know um you've never been asked eh no I reckon you should before the end of this episode give us one okay give you some time to think about and I'm coming for your dream too yeah I got plenty I got plenty of big crazy dreams I know you're a dream I am an absolute dreamer is my flaw and my strength yes yeah me too double sided Coen right yeah I did a strength finders recently and activator is my number one in futuristics my number two and you can totally see the good and the bad of both of those things yeah oh for every strength there is a weakness yeah yeah and vice versa for all your weaknesses you can turn it into a strength

totally we're real bigger on that we think about that as a brand positioning thing too with Brands like their biggest strength that they have is also probably some of their biggest weaknesses and stuff right and like and by understanding that you know how to leverage it like the strength of say like a big Talco a national Talco is that they are a national Talco and they have the size but also becomes their weakness because now everyone has to have it they think of them in a negative way by default yeah you know whereas if a little Boutique thing came about like I mean skinny is not quite the right example but like say like skinny is a bit smaller people can love him a bit

more because you don't have to have skinny yeah but like one of the big guys it's they've got that thing so their strength is this size but it also was a veral weakness for them for brand sentiment you know say like just stuff like that so true man what do you think your strength is and therefore your weakness as an entrepreneur a bus so mine is definitely I play my strength is that I'm really good at iteration I'm really good what does that mean it means to like try something have it do something measure it and have it um change the way you do it the next time so I might make a coffee taste it it's crap I'll adjust the beans I'll make it

again and I iterate and iterate get a perfect SLE and go well that's the way the coffee is going to be with the machine the thing the team hates the most about me is that I walk in and I rip everything off and I start again every day and so it's both my strength because it helps me move at speed but it's also my weakness because it's hard to be around me it's hard to be around someone who sets fire to everything every day yeah yeah perfectionist man yeah yeah it's not even about perfection actually it's the opposite it's I don't even want to chase Perfection cuz I don't think there is a destination called Perfection yeah you can't ever be there right so it's

just always being better continuous Improvement would you say then you're really Cur curious you're always learning you're wanting to learn new stuff all the time yeah oh like that's so cool you know like um I joke about how my most Google term is etymology of something so etmy is the meaning of like the history of the word so I'll hear a word and then the if you go on my Google so different to my Google I know it's so weird bro it's so weird like cuz like it's like my partner clear my wife she'll like she'll see me doing it she's like what are you doing I was like oh I'm just learning the history of the word Apple she's like why and I was

like cuz I don't know it and she's like but why do you need to know it why do you need to know where Apple came from I was like oh well you know I was looking at an iPhone the other day and I was like why does they call it an apple that's a weird thing for a tech company why is that where does the word come from oh it comes from you know and I just I just turtled all the way down I just go spiraling what a rabbit hole trust me every day I get lost and stuff um I'm going to come back to something I wanted to ask yes cuz the thing that confuses me the most about you hit me it's

like what is the where is the money here yeah how do you live yes ma'am well look that is kind of the question I get a lot recently especially the last month I've got that a lot uh so I was very fortunate to be one of the producers on a documentary for The Wiggles last year that came out on Amazon Prime in October um and dad gave me and my wife a little bit of breathing room got it to go and she's still working to basically go let's just send it let's just send it this year see what happens let's build this this needs to be a business this needs to be something that's Global that I can build a team around and I was

probably hesitant for years man cuz I was so worried of selling out or looking like I'm selling out because it's such an authentic thing of I'm genuinely doing this till the day I die of growth like if it stays where it is I'm still doing it and I'm like I don't want to sell out but something that's you know I've thought about a lot recently and have had people talk to me about is you're not selling out if you build a team you're just expanding it now you can travel to Africa for a month in film dreams now you can travel the world and you don't have to edit send every cold email do every piece of filming do every followup D you free yourself

to focus on the thing you love yeah and I'm like okay that makes so much sense now I'm going let's make this happen and I'm going all in this I love that so what does that mean what does that mean so me and my wife are really looking at a move to LA mid year she's having job interviews there we know what's going to happen I'm back and forth all the time it's just where like bro the doors that open in La has just been mindblowing um and I've got a couple of teams in La that are talking around building this and helping me manage it and turn it into something so interesting yeah it's really exciting man but honestly dude I've done this for

3 and a half years and I want people to know that it's so exciting but it literally took like seven years before anyone anyone kid and dude so many people in my life like oh dude why you no one's paying you you I've put more than 100K into this like I flew to Melbourne last year for 10 minutes with Elmo like that cost and I wouldn't change it for the world man I just believe in this so much that I quitting's on option and but it's slowly starting to build man and that's That's so exciting it is cool it's that whole um saying of like the overnight success only takes 10 years you know and it's so true right good 10,000 hours man you just

got to like and we we see that even like I've had the same experience in my life of this business it's like everyone laughs at you until they want to be you right like they all like you're an idiot what are you doing your life and some people are concerned like my family were concerned dude what are you doing and I'm like cuz you know I had a real good career as a um as a GM of hotels and all stuff and then you get to a point they're like oh how did that happen yeah and make it thank they come out the woodwork they always did right I mean at my wedding it was really fun I got married just a couple months ago

and my brother he essentially said that he was just like I had no idea what you were doing he's like I always knew it was going to work but I had no idea how you were going to get there he's like and and the only reason you got there is cu you had clear by your side which is true yeah but like even he was like I knew you were going to get there but hey five years ago you're like what are you doing mate like what are you here but like for me like what I want to ask you is like is that where you're at right now cuz cuz like when I just came across you I didn't know whoever you were until

until I messaged you the other day off F kind I was like I like started watching all your cont was like who was this guy and how have I not heard he's already up to 1900 and something so are you is that what happening to you now like are you on a precipice now it feels like that I think my last trip I was over there and I I had an incredible wave of like doing like munes Terry Cruz t and a bunch others and I think that I think after posting those I think people were kind of like wait what where's this me yeah um and the crazy thing bro I've done like 350 plus CPS yeah but it's only been the last couple

that everyone's kind of gone wait who's yeah and but dude I feel like I'm in a bitter place now like I'm ready for growth and I don't think I was two or 3 years ago I wasn't in a good place and like I talked about being very like my ego when I was younger and I was so cocky man I think I still held on to a lot of that yeah even a couple of years ago so if it had blown up I it would have just become the Fraser show and I think I'm in a place where I'm like no I know what this is now and I've got an incredible wife in my team we're ready cool and I'm so ready for growth

man I love that I love that idea of like you know there's a point in your life that now yet they're ready if it was too early you would have screwed it all up potentially yeah cuz I'm the same like I um I look at some of these young kids that I clients are ours are like 27 and they're cranking and they got like their business are awesome and I'm like man if I when I was 27 I was an idiot like absolute idiot like I couldn't have done what that guy did cuz I there's part of me that's like oh man I should have started this earlier yeah but I couldn't have I was I was an idiot I was an ID there's no

way I could have done it and timing's right and I think the reason I like to like to tap into that is that I get a lot of young kids coming in like like I got to hurry up and do something because you know I'm running out of time you're 24 you're 24 19 like you're like shut up like like I was 32 when I started this business like go away go away but you're you're essentially saying is that like you could start a practice beforehand but like you probably couldn't get like the reason you feel like you're on a precipice is more mental than anything yeah right is that what you're saying yeah it's belief to me yeah um dude I mean the Journey

of the seven years has been so like I mean I quit for a year in 2022 cuz I burnt out I did every day for 5 years I did 1,819 dreams in a row crazy and it just took over my life mental healthwise like filming dreams just brought so much into man really it tell me about that I didn't see this when I was looking at your stuff yeah man well like so that was the mission was every day for 10,000 Days yeah and I did 5 years and I was I'm never quitting that like I'm in I'm proving everyone wrong and mental health just dropped man and I had a close mate that was in business very successful young entrepreneur um a guy that

I looked up to it's like that's who I want to be like he's a good mate but I want to be like him he took his life and soon as that happened I went I'm quitting this because this thing is not necessarily taking me there but it's taking me down a dark path okay and so I killed it and it was the hardest thing I've ever done and I was done for a year like done done done it was like detox it was like on rehab and then bro like then people started going like hey man like are you going to do that thing again that was cool right and I was like n n n till one morning one morning I woke up man

I was just like I need to start it again yeah but no no timeline yeah I'm doing 10,000 till the day I die cut this everyday thing that was a prison that I created no one put that on me no one was holding me to that but myself and bro it just freed me up to actually be present to enjoy it to take time to actually like not just meet someone for five minutes took a box and never talk to them again now I was like oh sit down I'll meet get a coffee of you for an hour and talk about your dream yeah and the doors that have opened since then because it's right it's the right time now I'm in the right place

also quality wise like I was so upset that this didn't go viral after like 10 dreams I was like what's going on I've been like a week at this and now I look at the quality of bro I'm like oh it'd be so embarrassing if that went viral like it looked it just looked messy there was no craft to it bro I didn't know what I was doing I wasn't confident talking to people um it's just timing man yeah what um so now that you're in that timing Place how how do you think it's going to change like how are you going to approach this differently I know you said you're going to move to LA there's people around you but like in your head

out are things changing because there's one thing of getting a team and having being in a right but like how are you going to go into this differently now or how are you going into this differently now that your head's in a good place what's changed well I think what's changed recently man like for like seven years it was very much hey what's your dream oh my dream is thanks man and that was it which is cool yeah and then I started like doing I think I did ashon Kutcher last year and that was the first time I ever just went oh what if I ask a few more questions and then it became a whole conversation and so many people hit me up afterwards

going dude that's what this is you need to have like a mini podcast type thing but it's kind of like have you seen Zan low with his like that and I'm like wait let's just have a conversation and actually I think that's where it's going man more longer form but with that same creative kind of filmy look and everything it's just such a natural transition yeah oh of course yeah of course like it's I think even when I watched I went down to RAB I watched all the short form fits but even like that when I was having a look I was like there needs to be more from this conversation you know like some of the newer ones are a bit more like that

obviously as you said but like even when you look back at like some of the others you you've got this opportunity with these people you taking it but that's okay but that's I actually don't like it that's like what I was saying before iteration right you're iterating now like you're going okay cool like and now you're going to do long form well you're doing the long form stuff you're probably iterating even then like oh yeah I should ask this next time or I should ask that like we're the same with this podcast this podcast was like last year was just like just do as many as we can yeah and just figure it out we had no plan no structure and then now it's like

the guys like will find someone like I might find someone like I found you and I was like no I want this guy like I really want to speak to him I want to hear the story so I give it to him then I'll do a research and we'll come out with points and we'll see so I know a lot and then that way I can get a good grasp of everything you've done so comeing their prepped and all this sort of stuff so it's just an iteration of it yeah which is what you're doing exactly yeah and you kind of there's times where you kick yourself going why didn't I but then you go wait but I can't kick myself because I didn't know

you didn't know and like now you do oh man like the fact that you know years ago I was being I was able to meet some of these people and literally just film them for 10 seconds thanks cool and I'm like no like that's so funny but now you're like but no I'm ready man I'm more confident now too like I was scared that like what what if I start a conversation and I'm awkward or I just it just goes and there's no no conversation and there I forget what to and I'm like wait no but now I'm just like this is so easy that was all my head man yeah yeah how scared were you for your first podcast to it me were you

nervous uh um for this one no I think the reason being is that I'd done a bunch of I'd played around a podcast for a while beforehand and I'd been on lots of podcasts uh I so okay so before I started this business before I moved back to New Zealand and I didn't put up content like this I just never did it um and then I gave up alcohol for a year I quit alcohol in 2017 and I didn't drink for a whole year and after that year I decided I wanted to learn how to do video and so I started just I I I read a lot so I read like about a book a week or so and I'm always reading yeah what

are you reading this week uh it's called determined it's about determinism and free will come on Robert selski it's very good um and I would make a video on my learnings my key takeaways for that book each week and I was just I did it purely to um learn how to edit I mean they're still on YouTube they're still on our it's the same YouTube channel is the YouTube channel we now have for our business so they're still there but the that taught me one how to speak a little bit more and then after that I moved to New Zealand and I said when I moved to New Zealand I'm just going to say yes to everything I just been like had been spending the

last few years binge watching yes the the guys from yes way too much so I was like we've all been on the yes fairy exactly so I'm like I need to just start saying yes to stuff and doing things that put me outside of my comfort zone if it makes me scared then I should say yes yeah and so I was on LinkedIn on the first week I got to New Zealand and a girl called Miriam posted um a post saying oh I'm doing a talk on presentation skills at the northern Club if you want to come it's 30 bucks here's the tickets here's the event so I booked one and I made my partner go at the time clear and um oh she's my

wife now um and I said to her let's go she's like why are we going to the stand like I'm not keen at all like it's a presentation coach I don't want to speak in front of people I like this is exactly why we're going so we went and uh Miriam was like on how to do public public speaking and Miriam said is anyone keing to do impromptu speech and I my hand went up before I could think I just like went straight up and my my wife was like what are you doing and then I got up and I just did this five minute speech about who I was and what I was trying to do and I'd only been in the country for

a week and so that was the first time and then afterwards I sat down and my brain was caught up with what just happened and I just started sweating going oh my God what did I do and then that led to me joining Toast Masters um have you heard of Toast Master or been the Toast Masters which I don't think I have it's like a networking group but it's public speaking it's Global they just teach you how to do public speaking yeah um and Miriam was the president of the Toast Masters for the northern Club she's like you should come along and do Toast Masters so I convince my wife to join and we did six months of Toast Masters and um that there like

really got me out of my comfort zone and so now I'm just never scared meeting people because like you would have like in that session if you had prepared speech you'd have to do a 5 to 7 minute speech in front of this group of 30 people who by the way practice public speaking every week like they're the best speakers in the country and you're having to do this five to seven minute speech them and then they critique you straight afterwards in front of everyone tell you everything you did wrong and everything you did good and then there's like impromptu ones where they're just like you haven't got anything prepared and the end they're like they'll read out a topic and then they point to

your turn minute and a half go in front of everyone and then they criti you oh tell you everything you did wrong oh my and so for six months I just got ripped to pieces and it was the best thing ever man best thing ever know that true training yeah and then now like I just don't fear it anymore the public speaking piece yeah I've never feared people like I've never feared um what people think of me and anything that I just feared of like not being able to do it it was a different fear I didn't really care what other people thought of me when I public spoke it was more just like I don't know what I'm doing like I don't even know

how to start speaking it's like like like Carter's going through this Al that we've talked about that he he's got all the things in his head he just can't see them yeah hey he wants to and that was me I just I had it in here I just didn't know how to say that was what I was scared about I don't care what you thought about what I said I didn't even know how to say it yeah man and so that led to me this like the first podcast I did I was I was I was fun practice I was fine I just had to realize how to talk yeah dude I I saw thing ages ago and I've kind of and I said to

everyone is like if you want to start a podcast do the worst podcast episode ever if you want to write a book just write the worst like book ever like just start with the worst just take the pressure of yourself y it will not be perfect no way it will never be perfect it will never be perfect and then once you take that on instead of like like I could look back at my older dreams where the quality is just like what am I doing and go I want to delete all those but then I go wait it's kind of beautiful cuz you see where it's come from and now I look back at that I'm like actually it's kind of cool that it looks

so average cuz that's where I was that's who I was it's the best part yeah it's the thing I like the most cuz I I watched the one they called me was munas where you went the screen and the um flight the p p i got roasted on yeah it was so good but it was so good it was so good it caught me and it got me to scroll through thing and then as I scrolled and I could see where you had come from I was like this is cool like I that's actually the reason I reached out cuz I was like At first I was like like oh this is pretty cool is this like some funded project or some crazy stuff and

then I when I scroll back I like no this guy's like done it on his own this is epic that was the reason I wanted to talk to you not because of how good the video was thank you man yeah I wanted to know the journey thank you I'm very much appreciating the journey so much more yeah as you go along it you're just like it is kind of wild like it just blows my mind the doors that open when you just don't give up y like that's it I could have quit but the day like honestly man in that Year I quit I was so done and if you had told me hey in a year you're going to be at Ash's house would

been outrageous and now I shake to think that I may never have picked it up again yeah and everything I would have missed out on and that freaks the hell out of that's crazy to think hey the sliding door moment oh my God if you decided to go back what would have been otherwise oh yeah yeah that's crazy I I like tell me about this um for me whenever I want to do something real big and audacious the daily habit is the thing I have to do yeah like do you think that that played a big part of just like grinding that into your head about doing it daily like is that a part of the reason for its longevity as well yeah 100% man

like honestly doing it during that five years every day was almost easier than when I picked it up again and the first few months it was like I still whenever cuz I just didn't have the discipline every day it was like brushing my teeth it's like I have to meet someone and film an edit their dream today and I just I was in and it just honestly it just became routine but when I picked it up again man oh bro I was sloppy ass for like two months bro the thought of filming one dream was like I can't be bothered yeah but when you're in that zone you're in war man now I'm in a great Pace where I've actually got that momentum and I

it's it's just a passion man like I love it now like and I love sending cold emails like every day I send like four hours of Cold emails because I love it I read this and this is a good segue because I wanted to ask like no one says I love sending 4 hours of Cold email so tell me why and like tell me about the process yeah my wife calls me out on like she she banned me this week from sending C emails and I didn't send any for like two hours and then I fell into I was like I'm sorry I have to this is my job technically that um dude you know what it is I think when you start to get

some wins yeah and I've sent so many cold emails and have got responses from people who should never have responded you go holy crap this is possible yeah and because I know it's possible every time I send an email it could be a yes yeah and I've been I've seen more than 35,000 cold emails since I started this I've got it in my and I've been rejected maybe 20,000 of those yeah rejection doesn't do anything to me anymore at all Y and because of that I just like well let's just send 200 today and I'll probably get one yes and I'll probably get 50 nose but but over time you just start getting more yeses and then more yeses and then more and you're like

oh my God and then it's an addiction because you're like oh my gosh like if I don't send emails today I might miss out on X and that's so good but it is what I I've learned that it's a weird passion yeah it is a weird passion but it's like a like that same skill set of doing the cold email thing of like the like the way I think of it is not that I'm chasing the yeses is I chase the NOS yeah I I like I had to do it for my own mental state as I chase the nose because I wasn't sure about the rejection at first when I started this business so mine was like just to get coffees with people I

wasn't filming it but I knew if I had enough coffees I'd find clients yeah and even when I began I didn't even know what those clients were going to pay me for but I just knew if I spoke to enough people I'd find some business dumb thing I thought it turned out to be true but like I I I the way I looked at it was like if I ask every 10 people I get a no from I get a yes yeah so actually like every time like I used to count the nose it's a numbers game it's just a numbers game if you send a th000 emails yeah well you might get 100 ises you know exactly well it's been your biggest hail Mary

cold email of this is just stupid me sending this and you got a response I have one actually come on you I I just before outside I told you about how a client just paid me early yes so that client who just paid me it was a pretty decent sum of money it was in the it was for a month worth of work and it was a it was a big number like a really big number for a month worth of work and that client I messaged in 2019 um I I won't oh I can give her name her name is Francis Valentine do you know oh yeah so I called Emil Franc fil dream before yeah okay she's amazing one of my heroes like

actually one of my heroes i c his messaged her a really scummy LinkedIn message about just trying to like win her over for business at the time no idea who she was yeah but now she's a hero but then I was like I don't know and then she she replied back to me no she didn't reply I sent two scummy like real spammy just I was trying Stuff how to get coffees with people and then her GM fee weby reached out to me and I was like hey Stan like like about a week later hey we really need some help with LinkedIn like working to work with you oh actually no it was 6 months after I messaged her so she just went cold actually

she just went cold 6 months later yep we ke like would like to meet you you one of they were probably like my eighth or ninth client at the time yeah and uh yep did some work with him that was cool and then I got to meet Francis and I like fell in love I was like oh my God you're you're just amazing like yeah she's just one of those people you meet in life you're like you are so good like you are just a epic human with Francis and just followed her whole journey just inv me I became part of that I got to um do a government Tinder with them which we failed that one but then she won the second one so

she brought me in for that I did I did a bunch of videos with them they got me part of the digital boost program they gave like so over the years like they she just kept giving me more stuff and then just recently they just bought us on for a brand positioning piece about like helping them they they rebranded from Academy X but they the what they stand for is a brand hasn't really been communicated very well so they're getting us to help with that and so like I mean that's going to go on to be like a real they're going to be one of our bigger clients amazing man and that was because of this reallyy shitty scummy usually the ones you look back

on and you're like I can't somehow they saw something and and then the perfectly crafted you're like this going to kill no one cares we still we still don't have hang on I'm going to pull this up we still haven't seen anything else to each other read it out oh it hurts my soul um that I did this oh still sitting there like four messages from me none from her you just kep going the last one was July 3rd 2020 oh okay okay so it was six months so October 13th 2019 hi France is a no ever met person but would love to connect with here on LinkedIn and Bill both anyway look forward to connecting hopefully can also provide some value back to you

too pretty standard cor pry bull crap then she she accepted I replied appreciate connection Francis look forward to learn more about what you so fine yeah they're fine just you know a little bit whatever hi Francis how is it June already how's the post lockdown gone for you in your business just wanted to see if you wanted to chat about our attention seeker program which helps companies produce link leads using LinkedIn by developing Rel oh my God it's just straight into sell I hadn't spoken message to us from October 15th to June 23rd 2020 and then it just and then I just hey just checking in have you had time to see my message yes you know and like man is stillo nothing from her

just messaged me her GM she must have just gone hey you should get this guy D and then the like like I'm talking about like like we've earn we we've earn already to date six figures from them and we'll earn potentially earn six figures from them this year which look I don't want to like say we we're getting heaps out of them for nothing like we we got a really good working relationship with them we love them we love their brand we love everything about them I couldn't speak highly enough of it but I look back at that and I just cringe I can't believe I sent that to Francis Valentine but bro like it's like the wing grit ski quote you miss 100% of

the shots you don't take absolutely you just never know if you don't send it it's not going to happen and if you do it might happen exactly yeah that's exactly it oh that's so good yeah so that's my I I it's top of mine because of they're starting they're doing another project with us but I've always cringed about that and every time I meet her I'm like please don't bring out my link LinkedIn messages it almost be healthy to bring it up and laugh about it and just break the eyes I I might have to clip this and show it just be like oh man I'm so embarrassed yeah dude I went um I got through summer I got 's email and I sent and

put up this beautifulle I've got this great email and because I was before that I was cold emailing a bunch of people so I was like in the zone I was like boom boom boom and I send it to him and then you kind of like you have that voice that goes I think you did something wrong in that emo and you're like wait and you go back and have a look and I realized that the subject said 10,000 Dreams Fleetwood Mac I was like oh oh no cuz I was in the zone and I was emailing there no I've done this and what do you do man you just got to go with you learn you just got to learn from it and go

you know what like heard back by the way that's funny that's funny I um I've done that on a proposal for a real big client proposal and I I had I I used a template from another client it was a pretty similar proposal yeah and I still had the other brand all through it all through it and I pitched it and I sent it off and then Shai my EA is like s did you check that thing it's still got Pizza Hut logos in it was it Domino's Pizza you were ping for it was another quick service restaurant though it was it was another did you get the gig yeah did they laugh about it they didn't bring it up they just did you hit

them up going or you just left it we just left it there's nothing we do s it was done they signed it they sign the contract I guess we all do it I guess it's healthy to know everyone in business has done that of course when you're running a million miles an hour trying to grow at a rate that you should mode you have to yeah yeah people like when you're in this like you we're both in like startup mode really yeah like and and yeah might be a little bit scale up or whatever but like you're hustling you're iterating you're changing all the time you're not in a safe you don't have you can't have attention to detail yeah you can't you can't afford

it you'd go under if you tried to you couldn't keep up if you wrote Every cold email from scratch bro you four a day there's no way so I want to get like if people are out there doing this right they want to start doing this because i' I've done exactly what you've done I know the pain you've gone I you don't even call it pain you you're addicted to it I love it but how do they like how do they start this like what would you do if you're if you're someone who's wanting to just like say start a podcast and just get some guft what did you what would do like tactically how do you do this yeah man do you think regarding

cold emails or just in general just cold emails cold Outreach finding people finding guests like how would you start as someone today what should they do well the thing is man you just have to start y I always remind myself with a quote one day or day one you just have to start you're not going to get Obama in the first week of starting a podcast so don't assume you're going to I mean you can send that code email if you want not going to get Obama for years but the only way you're going to get Obama is years and years and years of doing the thing and just being authentic my cold emails are pretty loose and it threw my wife when she first

started to look at them I am so loose and not corporate I'm not professional I'm like yo what up Tom Cruz bro let's freaking do this man what do you like but somehow it works because it's authentic authentic because it's not Cor this is clearly a real um and it's just a domino effect man like you can if you're siging a podcast just start small like you could definitely try get a SE list like you know who in New Zealand are like oh my ma is friends with this person just do whatever you can to get to their house and do a podcast with them and they'll probably do it if you're young and you're just got passion they'll do it and then they'll go

oh I'm friends with Jon and and then slowly you just build up and up like my first ever dream was Art green you know and then you just slowly and slowly and slowly build up and just sticking at it yeah never quitting but I think too um the key with cold emailing I've found and I think why I've had a lot of luck is it's about what I'm pitching because you could get Tom Cruz's email and Pitch him an investment for and he'll probably never respond yeah but because I'm doing something I'm genuinely passionate about and I've done it for seven years and I'm going to keep doing it I think somehow it comes across yeah so making sure you're authentic and you have something

that you're not just doing a podcast that's making you fameous you're doing a podcast that's actually bringing hope to the world or bring something to the world whether that's business advice or blah blah blah and then just committing to it man yeah and don't overthink it make the worst first episode of all time and just do it the rips in and it can happen like that's the crazy thing it can happen and I think you got to get small wins to believe it can happen so do whatever you can to get that first win and then you'll start walking differently and then you'll get a second one then you'll walk really like coming out of Ash's house I was like I can do anything in

this world and I was walking on water like that is pretty epic yeah yeah I love that um tell me I want to get back into some of this idea of like going to La doing what you do and monetizing this thing and turning it into your career cuz that's you're going to have to at some point it's either that or it opens up opportunities to do other stuff potentially that makes you money maybe but like how do you see it being monetized right now inside your head you might not have a full picture or maybe you do what how do you see you making a living from this well I think man I don't have a full picture at the moment but I'm I'm

aware that there is definitely a path and I think a lot of people have said that to me defitely way you build this and I think I'm just a sponge at the moment and I've been talking to a buch of teams in LA and a lot of people even here who have got advice and ideas and but I think like a natural way is documentaries books uh podcasts like expanding it so you know doing a doco where I travel the world filming dreams in 80 Days or something you know I think that's such a natural next step and I am a filmmaker so I still have that passion exactly so it it makes so much sense to keep it in that film world as well

um and obviously like you you're going all into hopefully grow this thing and build it up so then more Brands come on board and you can partner up and everything but I'm aware that that will take time and everything but it feels like it's getting closer to that point where it will tip and then you know yeah but I'm just a sponge at the moment man yeah so do you think it's um when you say a documentary would that be someone else funding that C money from there you know like let say a stream like for The Wiggles doco Amazon buet you know imagine if it was an Amazon Doo you know yeah um and you know a book deal definitely makes sense but uh

the timing will be right when I it's time to write a book I don't think it's there yet no I yeah I kind of feel like the the book on this surely has to happen at the end yeah or I think it would have to be chapters you can figure out that's not my job to tell you that but I want to know so if I was listening to this podcast I'd be saying yeah okay cool do a documentary how do you do how does that conversation start like is it the same way your conversation starts with trying to get a guest like how does how do you just go oh I'm just going to get Amazon to pay for this doco and travel the

world like like come on like you know like this kids going piss off like you can't do that like how how do I start that where do you start because you you before you was like just start okay yeah so tell me the first step well bro like so I've been a filmmaker since I was seven Man film has been my thing and for years of doing 10,000 dreams I kind of have to put film on hold cuz this took over my life and I probably resented it for a while being like this thing is going to stop me from achieving my real dream yeah until I met the Wiggles filmed their dreams became mates with them and then pitched a documentary a couple years

later and then that actually became a real thing that Amazon bought and everything and so I think think right now in terms of next steps with that I'm very fortunate that I've made connections with people who are open to trying to help make this happen and who have connected and it's definitely not saying it's going to be an Amazon thing or anything but the world's getting smaller and smaller and smaller because of 10,000 dreams so but if I was starting out I I'm totally aware that it is a huge mountain when you're at the bottom Mount Everest it's like how the hell do I but you just have to take one step at a time man um and connections with people you know I think

being a good person you know it's not just necessarily just delivering like that's so important but being a good person y people want to work with people they like Y and go into every meeting or room and just make people's day love be the PO be the most positive person in the room smile at people send them nice messages encourage them listen to them do and it's like then the world opens up man yeah that's good it's um I give that advice to a lot of young kids who they're like struggling to get um jobs so get all these interviews but can't get a job and I you often you'll talk through them like why like how are you behaving and what is and they're

like oh you know like I'm all super prepared and I'm telling them about all good I am and all this stuff and they go through all these things and I sort of say to them like how many questions did you ask about them personally to get them to love you yeah like do you mean that's it's I like no no seriously like the most of the people iire made them in the interview yeah man you know I was like you're a cool dude yeah and then I think back how did they make me do that and then it was because they kept asking me the right questions you know they said they asked me the right things that made me go I started talking about

myself and people love talking about themselves they do and then they feel good about it yeah and then I put that goodness onto you yeah you know like you obviously are pretty natural at this and good at it like coming in here today love asking questions ask lots of questions and it's such a good way of like building rapport with people dude one of my favorite quotes is to be interesting be interested yeah yeah just be interested in every human you meet Y and if I was in 16 17 18y old dude right now and I would to break into this space dude I would just come knocking on the door here and be like right I'm working for free I'm going to sweep the

floors I'm going to do the dishes I'm going to do the stuff no one in this place wants to do y I come to you and go give me all the stuff you hate doing that and I would just do free work 100% build a relationship and then within three four five months I'll be right we're we're hiring you yeah we we got to pay you now yeah dude when I started I I ran a film company for maybe like four years doing commercial corporate work I just start out doing free work head up everywhere and go I'll do a film for free and half the time you do the film and they go dude okay we got to pay you for this this is

too good Y and you just got to by putting yourself out there do whatever it takes to get notic to get in the room I love I love that you said that because I'm a big believer that's how I became a GM of hotels yeah I just like I got a job like in the like as a food and beverage attendant whatever doing stuff but I wanted to learn everything about the hotels and so I just go to the concer guy and I was like just I'm just going to turn up on sday you just tell me what to do yeah he's like no I haven't got any money for you any shift for you I was like I don't want to be paid no

one's going to turn down free if you wanting to work for so he's like yeah cool I SP my whole career like that and I was able to like accelerate like I was like my career was like very accelerated in hotels and I I was like one of the youngest GMS in the in theel I was with um a few I was with InterContinental Hotels group so holiday and Crown plazas intercon ridges and QT that are Australia New Zealand base um and a couple others but mostly those are the two main ones that I was with and um and so we have a bunch of interns here where we we had a lot of people reach out like doing that like hey I want to

intern with you and we said okay well look like if you want an intern like that's not a job um so we don't pay the interns but if you want a job with us like we always have jobs going just apply like if you're the right person we'll hire you um but if you're not and you want an intern like you know like Carter like his dad well actually his dad came to me he's my my cousin and was like you know he told me a story and it was fair that he did it that way but then I said to his dad I'm not going to bring him on unless he comes and asks me and which he did and that's why is here

today um and but so we anyway so we went through we had this intern progr it's been real good most interns leave here and be like if the four years I spent at Uni I haven't learned as much as the three months I spent here like this has been the best thing ever I me one of them the guy's going to take your photo after this for the thumbnail he's come back right C like he did his internship program with the university and he's like can I come back like to do more just off his own bad because he just wants to learn he knows he's not ready anyway the thing reason I love what you're saying is right now I'm having like I put

a post up about one of our in Brook on LinkedIn where I I I knew I was going to get click I was a real clickbait title for the Post wiches we don't pay our interns um but we do hire some of them and then I went on the story of why we hired Brooke yeah and she's amazing and I I went out to talk it was a really nice post for her but then we got all these people who were jumping on like calling me out for not paying inurance yeah man see I know where this go yeah and that it's and like I'm I'm a real arguments about this I'm a real [ __ ] ster and so I'm like egging them on in the

comments yeah but like at the end of the day I said to them I was like look if the law was you can't do this then I just wouldn't have interns yeah like I would just go hire real staff who could do the job like they they do do some stuff like Carter right now is helping with stay and stuff but like honestly like when I brought them in I said to everyone they can't do productive work like none of this can be productive work get them special projects like the guys have the sponsor page that they run which has nothing to do with us it's just that they learning all the things that we learn and actually if you ask any of my team

what do we teach interns we don't teach them how to make content we teach them how to work in a work environment with us and be good people yeah like he gets told off not because he makes bad Tik toks but because he's been a little [ __ ] yeah hey yeah that's what I tell you off for yeah like my job as his like or our job with him as the intern is to make him a better human not to make him a bit Tik tocker yeah like and I'll rip my I always rip the team the paid stuff I always rip them apart when they're letting this these guys get away with stuff that they shouldn't and enabling them to be little shits so like

I love like and for me as an intern that's what I actually learned dude the things I learned wasn't the skills ABS I did a free internship at a film company when I was 21 for free months and I had to drive an hour each way to get there and I had no I was living in overdraft though so it was like destroying me financially was destroying me to get this free internship but I feel like you're more of a sponge and I found like like because I wasn't getting paid it was deliberate I'm going there because I want to learn because I want this not because of money and because of that I learned more I was more of a sponge whereas if they

were paying me it would have become a job and I wouldn't have taken on the same yeah I'm all for M especially if someone comes asking for it yes have you ever had anyone just knock on the door and be like I work it now as an intern have you ever had any we have people like that in the team now it's so freaking actually we've even got staff members done that like olle who works for us Ollie just like rocked up with this massive CV oh I saw this on Tik Tok that was Ollie Ollie Med yeah so I thought ol like sister he'll be back get out he got the job he's been filming 660 today I'm so happy I know so many

people who know him and Friends of him and I saw that and I had no idea what happened he came in he did it then we brought him back for an interview cuz we're like yeah cool come in and he was actually good like he's legit like yeah he's awesome he's very good at what he does so of course we H him um but like we have interns the same way like interns come in and just be like hey I want I'm just like we had this one girl who just like showed up last January and she's just like I'm just going to keep turning up until you hire me and she just would do stuff for free for a month we ended up hiring

her anyway she got pregnant stuff happened she wanted to leave and she's gone to toong so she doesn't work for us anymore but um she just like wed her way into working here I'll just do what it takes till I get a job have you just walked out into the office and someone's sitting at a desk and you're like who the heck can you like oh I work here now when I came back from New York I was in New York for 3 months and I Ro back and I walked up the I went up to K I was like who are you he's like oh I'm Kin I'm an intern here like oh okay [ __ ] well my name is Dan I'm the owner like

I'd been gone for 10 weeks you got to be bold and it I think that you're terrified that you're going to be rejected and you're going to be mocked and kicked out the but game recognizes game if you're a hustler and you're got Big Dreams there's no way you're going to see someone like that and go get out of here you'll be like I see myself 100% you have to stand out yeah absolutely I wish I was 16 again bro I would do same I didn't have that mindset at 60 now with this mindset bro I would kick every door I had it when I was probably like 21 22 I started to do the free work thing yeah but like I but the problem

at that age I was still an idiot outside of work like I was still drinking and doing stuff that I was an idiot and so I was building myself up in career and pulling myself down in personal life and so like I if I went back now actually the thing I would have told myself is don't drink because you're an idiot for it but like yeah I agree with you like this when you just go in and you ask for what you want and you just don't leave until you get it but you be helpful along the way and be respectful you'll get it you know there's um when I went to New York like a lot of the would tell me like be confident

and humble you know like you got to be confident in what you can do you got to know you can do it but you need to be humble in that like you're no one yeah right don't be arrogant that you're the best in the business don't come over here thinking you're everything yeah but when they ask you can you do something you say yeah I can and everyone everyone I met who was successful they told me the same thing just be confident and humble you know whereas like it's the same thing I say to like I would say to the interns now that I knew that that's what my advice is is like come in be confident do the thing like we have an intern

now abdal who came in confident eh he just came in super confident he's like I can just do the thing and I'm going to show you I can do it and probably the first couple days he he was a little arrogant and he caught everyone off guard and he realized it really quickly himself the next morning and morning briefing he said to everyone hey you just want to say I'm sorry for coming in off the wrong bat I've done this the wrong way apologized to you and then from that day on he's been real humble respect he's real good I got hug respect from doing that a it was real good and so he's just confident humble and like no offense to the other interns

but he's like done it so quickly that I said to Connor CU he's in the creative he's he's working with him reporting him I was like how do we pay we're going to we're going to lose him in three months or six weeks whatever it is four yeah four oh really but he's like he's epic yeah you know it's like I actually don't have the money for him but we have to find it like do I have to not pay myself for a bit to hire him and I think it's really good for the other ints to see CU they cuz like car can already see why he's different a he can see why he's different and he can learn from that yeah yeah and

that's it confident humble oh my gosh man yeah it's so good gives me fir up yeah I got I got how long do we have CU I got a little story I have a story real like of when it kind of there wasn't a let's say a happy ending to it but I was in a cinema and um Peter Jackson sat four rows in front of me in the cinema and there was those ones where the entire movie my gut was like go and talk to Peter Jack go sit next to him and I I couldn't enjoy the movie man it was but you know when life presents opportunities and at the end of the movie it was the scariest thing I have ever done

and yeah by none I just went up he's my hero man Peter Jackson I just went up there was a seat next to him I just sat next to him and I haven't have a USB with some films on it oh yeah I was like excuse me Jackson here's a USB with my short films as my emo address it'd be amazing if you could watch them and let me know you thought he's like oh okay and I just stood up went back and sat back down I like but nothing came from that but I did it you did it and now I have zero regret whereas if I hadn't done it bro that would haunt me you know what's real good about that if you

hadn't have done that you also wouldn't have done the next one no and then you would have not done the one after that and then the muscle memory would be don't do it yes Ma and instead now you're going oh I do it and which led you to [ __ ] knock on Scooter's office like you know what I mean rejection is way better than regret 100% I have learned that man they even like never goes away bro but a month ago I was in Vegas and I was um waiting in the the Hilton Hotel and I was about to film T's stream I was waiting for assistant come down and I was just sitting there and then a dude sits next to me and I look

and it's the host of hot ones Sean Evans and I'm like oh my gosh I think they short hot ones and I literally like 10 minutes he's just sitting that and I'm like this is the moment he's not doing anything and bro that voice was like he's going to reject you it's going to be embarrassing you're going to fail that and I waited for 10 minutes kicking myself going damn it bro gr some like what are you doing and then finally I had the courage and I was like excuse me are you Sean he's like ah I'm caught yeah and then an assistant came by and was like oh Sean we got to go now and he's like sorry man I gotta leave and he

left I'm like I had 10 minutes I could have sat there I had my camera he probably would have done it cuz he's a cool guy but I let that voice stop me and now I have regret yeah and I'm like regret is so much worse than rejection man if he had laughed then he go away it would have been a great story hot one's going in Vegas like cool story you know what I like about is at least you did something yes because it still teaches the muscle to do the thing you just didn't pan out you got a know let's call it a no yeah you know at least I did it at least the regrets not that much that I didn't even

his hand you got reject you got rejected by a third party yes the assistant the assistant rejected you for him so upset I had him too but it is that thing like every time you say you you don't do something you reinforce the behavior to not do the thing and like that was when I moved to New Zealand that after watching all this yesterday was that thing like like you're not going to get it if you don't shoot your shots then just go for it like everything just put your hand up to the point like like you know where I was putting my hand up for things and then going oh what did I just put my hand up for oh my God I'm going

to speak in front of these 300 people and then you know like it's lead to things where I just like I just do stuff now that I'm like and people like how are you doing this I'm like I don't know just giving a shot was going to say hello it was like when we went to New York last year we went for 10 weeks we took Janie with us me my wife and Janie and everyone was like why are you going to New York and I was like because if I want a global domination I can't do that from ockland like I got to go yeah and we just rocked up No Agenda everyone's like have you got meetings booked I like n and just

like went there and I remember Landing in the first night I started like I was being clear we with Eden it was late night was like midnight and we got into this apartment which was not what it looked like on the photos to see a BNB like it was pretty bad like we're in a basement and like it was just not great and then I just started crying and she's like what's going on I was like how do I do this like I don't know she and she she just like smacked me essentially she's like the same thing you've always done you just go talk to people be you and just do that over and over again until someone says hey you want to do

some work for us yeah and I remember s like pulling out of it because I was like over I was like oh my God I'm in New York like am I crazy like why am I doing this anyway she slapped me out of it and the next day I was just like actually she's right so I just started messaging people hey you want to grab coffee you want to grab coffee like can we gra and then my calendar got full and then I started meeting all these people and then all a sudden we weren't even going there to get business we were just feasibility we signed two clients massive clients like two clients that are bigger than any client we had here and it just

crazy and then people started recogniz us on the street from our Tik toks and stuff like people knew who we were on the streets of New York it was crazy we're getting stopped on the street oh my gosh we're just like wait how do you know us like I watch all your Tik toks like one lady stopped us on the train she was a hit of comms for this massive crypto currency exchange yeah and she was like are you guys attention seeker she's like it is hey Stan and joury like oh I just I I'm the such and such I had to put a Tik Tok case study together whether or not we're going to do it and I use your videos for all man

and on the train back from Connecticut to New York and so anyway my point is is like that is crazy I only got to these places like I was only on that train cuz I knocked on a door of a guy who introduced me to a client in Connecticut which we started filming on and I happened to now be on the train back to New York and I met this woman who then is potentially another client right yeah I guess the point is like yeah if you train that muscle to just go just just do it just give it a go night reference just do it just do it book that ticket you never know you know that trip ended up costing us about 120k

or something I think yeah New Zealand do it was 100 it was 100 Grand at at one point but then once we yeah it was about 120 something car we ended up making we've already earned about 130 from it from clients that we've got there and there's ongoing work so we ended up paying it off but when we went everyone's like you're Aug mental like your mbb is 20,000 a month like what are you doing like this is dumb why are you doing this in your business right now like New Zealand's going so well yeah but like I just knew if I if I stayed here I'd get comfortable I'd get scared I'd stop taking the shots yeah yeah oh my gosh man yeah I'm

so passionate about this Ty of stuff man I'm GNA finish on one real quick thing and then I'm gonna ask you but I just want to go back to the in thing yes like I on LinkedIn at the moment this fight's happening with these people who are real passionate and and I want to ask you this question because that it might be it might be they've got some truth in what they say but they say how internships and this free labor um it isn't as accessible from people from low socio backgrounds who don't have a family to support them or whatever right or they just don't have incomes when you think about you in this space like first of all like what do you think

about that and two you just told me you did it when you were running on overdraft oh yeah so like it's not like you had a whole base of support either potentially so first of all what do you think about that argument about it's unfair for people from lower income places cuz like there'll be people who watch this be like yeah cool you to like yeah you probably from some privilege you can just do that but what if they AR yeah well I think like there's obviously a line yeah where businesses take advantage of yeah of course and I think we all know there's a line and think absolutely if you're kind of but I think if someone is like I want to be a

part of what you're doing and I'm prepared to start for free just to be a part of what you're doing to learn from you guys I think that's amazing CU that mindset will take them so far yeah and that would have come anything with that mindset yeah um like honestly bro like I like even living in overdraft for a long period of my life you know years back never did it occur to me to quit never did it occur to me to not reach out and try learn and try get doors opened it was almost a driver now I'm very fortunate I have parents that would have you know I was living at home for years and my parents would have picked me up if

really it had got to rock rock bot but oh man that drive a when you're kind of like I honestly do I think I do my best work when it's like if this doesn't work out you're bankrupt yeah I'll do my best work y like when life gets comfortable like last year the start last year I wasn't doing 10,000 dreams till April last year again this was in my uh year of break bro you know I was doing the docker I kind of it was slowing down and I you know I was comfortable where I'm like I got a lot of breathing room I just lost all motivation all passion I was bored I was lazy I was like who the heck am I man

I'm go what am I doing with life I just got comfy and I like that was the worst thing that could have happened I'm way better when I'm not comfy when life is like tomorrow could all blow over and that that's the stuff that forces you to go well then I'm going to use every sin I've got to go to La and see what happens and stuff always happens space I love that yeah I love that I guess what you're saying is what I think too is that it's less about the pe people's background and where they came from and more about the mindset they have for what they're going after if they are from a low income and they're pass if they have the

mindset they'll make it work yeah they'll make it work because the thing that me kind of raed up about this like I came from like he knows like I'm from a very poor family from a very poor background like I did not come from money all my brothers none of us did M but we all have the same Drive mine's probably more on steroids than my brothers but they're all the same they all own their own businesses and so like I want people who are listening to this to realize that like you're not being taken advantage and if you are there are exploit people who exploit that's fine but like if you're going in for an internship if you're doing that you want to learn

learn from someone and they're exploiting you then you probably shouldn't be wanting to learn from them yeah you know what I mean like they're not teaching when you think they're only teaching how to exploit whereas but you're probably wanting to go learn from people who are doing good stuff yeah yeah absolutely it's interesting one it's just top of mind for me because I've been like I mean I love it I love it but I've been figh people on link anyway we need to wrap this up so there's one question that we kind of come back to Carter with oh and we're going to ask him his dream I think I'll let you H yes sir and then I'm coming for you as well all right

car are you ready no not at all we've given you like an hour and a half to think about all right Carter yeah what's your dream um I don't know um you know growing up I wasn't given the chance to think about crazy dreams um but where I am now I guess um my craziest stream is to just see how far this goes um this might be stupid but be bigger than Stan yeah not stupid at all and yeah shut brother bro respect man thank you God I hope you do thank you I would like for me that would be the co that's the goal of being a mentor just oh it's just like everything to me you know like uh watching people grow is

like the coolest thing ever like when we have people leave for bigger jobs like I post all about it I celebrate the [ __ ] out of it so like I love it like I help them I'd be their I'd be their reference I'm like let's go you know like I love nothing more than him to come chase me down one day you know like I mean it's not going to be there cuz that's not how business works but I get it like I get it like I'd love it like it would make me nothing prouder than to see that yeah that's cool that's amazing that's cool love it bro that's so good no thank all right Stan oh man I've got so many Big Dreams I

I seriously I do but like question I've got one dream which seems silly but it's the Catalyst for the others yeah and that is like I told you the I told you earlier that I I love business like business is my sport is what I love doing and so for me one of the measures of success success there is like um being the richest person in the world right and now it's a silly thing as in it's arbitrary it doesn't really mean a whole lot being the richest person but it's like as a scorecard thing it's like there is no way to say you're the best business person that's just not a you can't do that so that's one like objective measure you can achieve

to at least say well I took something off and so being the richest man and then also like the 10 billion follower thing is also another thing right so those two things are enablers for all the other stuff the moon shots yeah they're the moon well they're the moonshots to be honest the 10 billion followers is more of a moonshot for me than being the richest man in the world that one I think is achievable yeah I'm not actually that scared by that goal I'm more scared by the 10 billion follow one yeah that one I've actually have no idea how to do the 10 the the richest man in the world I can do that I honestly reckon I could without being arrogant I

just think there's a bit of luck in it but there's also a lot of just hard work and determination right the thing I like for me like what we did the reason why we started doing this business in the first place was this like like we coming from like South Oakland from Mador you just didn't have anything like you never had anything like you grew up with nothing you grew up with no dreams you grew up with no to be able to do anything there was no like you don't even know it's possible yeah and so I've always had this like like this dream of like you take all that wealth and money and you build a like it's the the concept of trade not

Aid and how do you build an economic system in the places that need me the most yeah that provide generational wealth for those places because the generational wealth doesn't it's not that it takes away that say the meslo hierarchy right like it takes away that basic crap that people have to worry about but then you're able to create some economic engine that allows them to dream big and so I've always done that which is why like I take on these interns like I don't do it like the interns don't really help the business grow and there people will argue with me about it but that's one of them is for that I go like whenever I get asked to speak to kids like I'll go

do it like I flew to blend them off the back cuz they had this future work thing I'm like yeah I'll come how much I was like don't worry about it like I'm there tomorrow I'll bring JY with me we'll speak those sorts of things I love doing like I just remember when I was 16 and I was an idiot and I was like I wish I had a kid like some person who said to me Stan like come with me like I'll show you the way cuz I was like 20 I still remember I was 22 and I was working as a food and beverage tenant at a hotel in hollan sorry in Goos and my boss at the time Vias who became one

of my greatest mentors as a when I was growing up pulled me aside one day and said why why are you pissing this up the wall like why why why are you doing this like why don't you do something more and I was like oh what do you mean he's like you're smart like do something else like don't just P away all this talent and I was like what like what are you talk like I didn't know there was talent I didn't know what it was and he was like do you want a career and I was like yeah and he's like okay so turn up tomorrow and I'll start it we'll get started and that was it like a few years later I was

a GM of hotels dude you know because I had someone who said so yeah so that's my dream is to be able to like help a as many people as possible to do that and I think the best way to do it is through economics the world's still run by money y so use economics to lift people into that place that is so awesome man so yeah anyway dude thank you boys thank you that was awesome actually that was a really really [ __ ] cool one that was good one yeah it was good thank you bro I really appreciate you coming back thanks for asking man yeah yeah all right thank you everyone thanks for watching
